There's something about the name 'piddle valley' that just makes me laugh, a very weak southern place-name. A very condescending attitude for a lefty to have towards the river that gives Puddletown its name...

(Local knowledge here, I was born & grew up in Dorchester, Dorset).

Worth remembering that Tolpuddle of Martyr fame is also in the Piddle Valley, though outside this ward. I remember as a child going to the great Martyr rallies addressed by Labour cabinet ministers - so maybe it's the Labour absence that is more disappointing.

If you've liked all the jokes at the expense of Piddle Valley in this thread, check out the name of the councillor whose resignation caused this poll.

Yes, Andrew I see what you mean - he just had to be elected. Btw, following your link and scrolling through to find Piddle valley I notice something very odd about Dorchester West _ I take it a misprint on the original declaration?

The Conservative candidate in Piddle Valley appears to be married to the local Conservative County councillor, he also lives outside the ward, will being local be the key to a famous Green win here ?.

I have memories of American & Japanese tourists mispronouncing Piddletrenthide - it always amused the local population!
