Seems that Salford councillor for Claremont, Sareda Dirir (Labour) has resigned, although it hasn't been officially announced her page on the council website has been deleted. She has recently (and controversially) been appointed Deputy PCC for Cheshire. Controversial because she's on a higher salary than her predecessor, isn't a Cheshire resident and ... er ... her parents are both councillors for the same ward as the PCC.

Tell me about it I do know that in 2011, we intended to stand two candidates but one withdrew at almost the last moment. At least undernomination *shouldn't* be a problem for us this time..... Are you planning overnomination to be on the safe side?

Harold Apps , Conservative councillor for Ashford Victoria ward on Ashford BC has sadly died Almost inevitable and sad that Harold would eventually die in harness. He had had a long career as the member in his home village and eventually retired from that but after 4 years in retirement he came back as the member for Victoria, a town ward not normally obvious Tory territory, and the suspicion was that that wasn't supposed to happen. Nevertheless Harold set out on a new career and his death will leave a potentially very open contest in Victoria where there has been Tory, Labour, Lib Dem, and UKIP presences in the past.

Harold Apps , Conservative councillor for Ashford Victoria ward on Ashford BC has sadly died Harold supported me in two of my campaigns at Ashford and for a few years I worked with him as a colleague (not politics), then I moved away from the area and lost contact.

Carlton-I was actually vice chair of planning under Harold's chairmanship (in a Tory minority administration with planning kept deliberately cross-party) I begin to suspect that in the real world as against this extraordinary fantasy world, we may actually know one another. Our aliases are slipping Memory dims old chap as I have had London, Suffolk, N. Notts, Wester ross and Central Italy since! But I remember Harold as a bank clerk, Anglican and Tenterden minor department store manager? In those days he was perpetually cheerful, very polite and a very nice person. Looked like a market town family solicitor.

That's the man.The very persona of the old-fashioned Tory. Yes. He had all the attributes of patriot, monarchist, Anglican, country lover, citizenship, decency, loyalty, hard work and attention. But as I am sure he would admit, in no way troubled by intellectuality!

Obvious Green gain. No. Not in any way natural Green territory. I know that patch.

Sorry, I was being facetious. I have next to zero local knowledge for that part of Kent and wouldn't want to make a serious prediction at this stage.

I know it very well and would be even less likely to make a serious prediction at any stage.

Would it be fair to assume most of the uncalled by-elections will be called for June 8th?

Would it be fair to assume most of the uncalled by-elections will be called for June 8th? That almost certainly raises the turnout for these substantially and would tend to favour the two big parties over all other comers?
