5.5.83 - Eton No.3 (Gerrards Cross) - Hill (Con) Unop I love the way these old Rural District names were still in use a full decade after their abolition. Edit: I think this is quite rare actually - most county councils had had redistricting ahead of the 1977 or 1981 elections but Buckinghamshire was one of the few which did not until as late as 1985 which is particulalry strange when you consider the huge growth occurring in Milton Keynes at that time

Cheshire County Council Elections 1973-1985 13.3.80 - Crewe No.4 - Hinks (Lab)1059, Scholes (Rpa)824, Sylvester (Con)307, Cannon (Lib)127, Tonks (N.F)45 Crikey, that takes me back! Possibly the first count I ever attended. (We were relieved not to come 5th!) Both Scholes and Cannon were Group colleagues in later years, Scholes having joined the SDP. Silvester is the infamous Brian: Conservative, Independent, UKIP, For Britain ... Tonks was previously a Liberal member. Liberal to NF an unusual move.

1981-1985 17.6.82 - Ringwood & Fordingbridge - Burt (Con)825, Bussey (Lib)501 Another great hangover name - both Ringwood and Fordingbridge themselves were (are) still in Hampshire but this presumably covers the part of the old Ringwood & Fordingbridge Rural District which was moved into Dorset (St Leonards and St Ives)

Does anyone know what sort of area Weymouth No.3 covered? I'd guess it was broadly a predecessor to Lodmoor but I'm not sure.

The Election took place in the East Dorset District Council. Ward No.2 was St. Leonard's & St.Ives where three vacancies were contested. The parish of St.Leonard's & St.Ives was previously located in the Ringwood & Fordingbridge R.D.C of Hampshire. According to the book 'New districts for Old' (which compares old parishes/wards to their allocation within the new authorities) the new district was initially to be called Wimborne. Hence my reference to Wimborne No.2.

N.B At the time of collecting the results no official record of the Llandeillo No.1 Division could be located. Newspapers sources were searched but no result found. In the end I wrote to the elected candidate who could only remember his result and majority but could only indicate the approximate vote of the other candidates. This was the only result I could not find at the time. Unfortunately, the vacancy and election occurred between the ending of the old authorities and the establishment of the new County. If anyone has this result I would be pleased to have it.
Of all the new County Councils, Dyfed was the hardest to get information from. They issued a results schedule for the main elections but getting anything else was sometimes impossible. Requests mostly went unanswered even though I enclosed a large Stamped Addressed envelope. The person in charge once suggested I should research my local area giving me the impression I was asking for highly confidential information.
