Has anyone got a link to the ABC election night coverage - I caught a bit of it live on Saturday morning, but I had to go out. I can't seem to find it on Youtube anywhere. I've searched and can't find it. I have found SevenNews's coverage though. Don't know if that's any help. This channel seems to be in the habit of uploading ABC election night shows but he/she hasn't done so yet for the NSW election. www.youtube.com/user/y4t7sds12/videos

Some interesting results in the Legislative Council. This is state wide STV, with the option to cast a group ticket for a party's candidates but further above the line preferences have to be entered by the voter:
* The Coalition have lost 4 seats, dropping from the high of the 2011 landslide. Total 7 + 9 not up. * Labor have gained 2. Total 7 + 7 not up. * The Greens have lost 1 seat with a small drop in their vote from 2011 (but a rise from 2015) but amidst a row that saw a sitting member restand as an independent. Total 2 + 2 not up. * The Shooters & Fishers have retained their one seat up. Total 1 + 1 not up. * One Nation has gained a seat. Total 1 + 0. * Keep Sydney Open, a single issue party fighting closing hours, has gained a seat. Total 1 + 0 * The Liberal Democrats have gained a seat. Total 1 + 0 not up. * The Christian Democrats appear to have lost their seat up, their first failure since the party's formation. Total 0 + 1 not up. * One seat remains in doubt with Animal Justice potentially taking it. They have 1 seat not up.
The Christian Democrats notably only fielded 18 lower house candidates this time, in contrast to standing in all 93 seats last time, which may suggest a party in membership & resource decline. Fred Nile has the seat not up but next time he will be in his late 80s.
These results suggest the upper house is going to be more problematic for the government, especially given the conflict between the Nationals and Shooters & Fishers in rural areas.

Oh and bets on how long Mark Latham stays in One Nation, given propensity of both him and ON elected members to not last very long?

As all Liberals should be... As all real Liberals are! Liberal is not the same as Libertarian. That's why there are two words with different meanings

As all real Liberals are! Liberal is not the same as Libertarian. That's why there are two words with different meanings We are a standing affront to right-wingers, YP, because we believe in freedom as a means to the ends of prosperity and self-expression, instead of believing in the freedom to exploit or starve.

As all real Liberals are! Liberal is not the same as Libertarian. That's why there are two words with different meanings "Libertarian" was invented by real US-liberals, caused by the abuse of the terminus "liberal" as a synonym for "left" in the USA. A Liberal, who deserves this label, will be for a maximum of liberties in religion & ethics (what will be left for normal Liberals, although the strict consequentialism of the most intelligent Liberals [like BURKE or deTOQUEVILLE] has ended on the very right) and in finance&economy (what will be right - anything but "ManchesterLiberalism" reduces the personal liberties).

Put another way - Libertarians see "Freedom To" as the essence of Freedom whereas Liberals include "Freedom From" (ignorance, conformity, poverty) as being important.

Well a lot of the "incorrect" usage of the word "liberal" came from the right as a form of abuse towards er, the liberals, sorry left.

As far as i know it was L.STRAUSS (with His awful "Athens" vs. "Jerusalem", i.e. "soft" philosophy vs. "hard" theology), who began to denounce the Lefties as "Liberals"

When exactly is the Australian PM going to call a federal election? There isn't much time left if he's planning on a Senate and House election.
