The comment about Chris Abbott, the Councillor who died in Redcar (Newcomen) was for once entirely justified. Chris was almost a lifelong Councillor, leader of the LDs on the Council (and for a while of the Council) and the main reason for local strength (and the parliamentary victory in 2010).

Is the Hutton in the other R & C by-election the same Hutton (Hutton Rudby) where there was recently a needle contest between various varieties of local resident groups for the Parish Council?

Kersal was a Liberal stronghold in the 1960s. (Just saying!) The main local issue there may be the development at Salford City's ground?

Anyway the Christchurch contest will not be another shock LD gain!

You're probably thinking of wards in Bury south which are near Kersal, such as Pilkington Park which indeed are pretty wealthy.

Kersal is only wealthy when comparing with other wards in the centre of salford, so you're right in that regard, it's nowhere near as wealthy as Worsley or Boothstown & Ellenbrook. Claremont is wealthier than Kersal as well.

There is a local independent candidate standing on this basis. Not sure how well he will do, may do better than some others who have stood for wards in salford in recent years outside of the main political parties.

Of course am hoping for a conservative victory, and with Arnold Saunders as our candidate (who did pretty well in both 2015 and 2016) we probably have our best chance. However we haven't won it since 1992 and labour do have a high floor when it comes to their own vote.

I'm not sure it could be described as posh. The flats might be expensive, but most of the people who live there won't be able to afford anywhere near those prices. It scores well on the deprivation indices, but that's helped by the fact there is no social housing and no elderly, disabled or unemployed residents, and all the residents have degrees, rather than any particularly large amounts of cash.

Hutton Rudby comes under Hambleton district and is in the Richmond constituency. This Hutton is western Guisborough.
