What's the story behind them blocking you?

What's the story behind them blocking you? I wasn’t averse to criticising them, especially the Editor, who on his personal Twitter at the time described himself as “God’s Messenger on Earth”. At the time of the Euro Referendum the Liverpool Echo and Manchester Evening News ran 18-odd page supplements highlighting what the EU had done for their areas whilst The Sentinel ran a column from Tideswell saying they were simply urging you to vote, and Stoke people didn’t expect a newspaper to have an opinion, at which I Tweeted both the MEN and Echo sarcastically asking if they could send some proper journalists to Stoke as we’d not got any. Next thing I knew I’m blocked.

How does your being blocked by them on Twitter prevent you from telling us the sentence?

How does your being blocked by them on Twitter prevent you from telling us the sentence? They tend to be very slow updating the website, but do keep their Twitter pretty up-to-date through the day.

That doesn't really answer my question, but it was a rhetorical question really because the answer is of course that it doesn't

I thought sentencing was next Friday.I think this conversation started after the verdict when the judge intended sentencing the following day, but then ended up postponing it to allow her to apply for Legal Help to retain professional legal representation, but yes, I think it is next Friday - not sure why my original post has suddenly become of interest tonight.

You do know they don't block you by IP don't you? (not that that would present a major problem either)

(not that that would present a major problem either) I know it doesn’t present a major problem partly because I have an IP blocker and also because for about two years I was sneaking around their block with an alternative Twitter account. However at some point that got blocked without me even Tweeting at or about them, and that overlapped with the trial etc. I’m now back stalking them (possibly because they’ve finally moved off the servers they used when the Daily Mail owned them on to The Mirror’s servers).

Sentencing further adjourned to 5 October as a full psychiatric report was deemed necessary: www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/local-news/race-hate-former-election-candidate-1809735

I wonder if she will try to appeal?
The report also says that she represented herself throughout the process. I wonder what the outcome would have been if she had allowed herself to be advised by, and represented by, a proper barrister . They might even have tried to argue that she was not guilty on grounds of insanity. I wonder how much the judge would make allowances for the fact that she did not allow herself to be given proper legal advice.

I wonder if she will try to appeal? My impression is she lacks the resources; sentencing has been adjourned twice - once to allow her to get legal representation and then to apply for Legal Aid to pay for said representation. The fact she was still representing herself today suggests either her application was unsuccessful or she refused the advice given to her and decided to continue alone, neither of which would bode well for an appeal. Equally there doesn’t appear to have been any group backing her with a crowdfunding type effort either.

I agree that she should have been jailed, despite being a 79 year old woman, because they are serious offences, but it should have been more like 3 to 6 months, not 12.

Found this on a friend’s Facebook, gives more detail and context than The Sentinel (surprise, surprise): jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/election-candidate-who-called-for-new-and-better-death-camps-is-jailed/

Anyone remember Dowager Lady Birdwood? They eventually found her unfit to plead. Mad as a hatter. I once got a flyer from her entitled "New Child Martyrs of Our Time, with Revelations from the Talmud and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
