I remember listening to the 83 election results on a small transistor radio on the world service in a distant land.... and that wasnt my first I wasn't allowed to stay up for 1979 but my dad kept coming to relay hourly updates. Watched 1983, but the morphine supposedly helping numb the pain of two broken legs and a broken arm in 1987 (along with actually going to vote because nobody in my CLP thought to suggest a postal vote, and getting hit by an old git in an Austin Metro outside the polling station) meant I slept blissfully through that night. I slept through the 1945 election and only got told the outcome next morning, but by 1950 I was acting as runner between polling station and committee room during the day (Just trying to confirm my position as the granddaddy of you all)

You are aware that the 1945 general election was declared during the day. First result about 10 AM.

UKIP 79 votes ahead of the Tories compared to 33 ahead in 2015, and on a lower turnout this time.
Loonies ahead of the BNP and Christian People's Alliance but behind Fielding!

Poor for both Labour and UKIP.
Underwhelming for us, though it seems (from speaking to those who went to help) we were squeezed effectively by Labour.
Good Tory result

Seems that the returning officer here took notice of johnloony's email I hope so - I haven't had a reply from either Stoke or Copeland despite specifically asking for one. Meanwhile, yippee!!! A swing of 2% from Labour to Conservative! Conservative UP by 2%!!!

A bit concerning that a candidate who is far far more racist than the BNP got so many votes. I hope that those 137 voters were genuinely ignorant of how extremely and explicitly racist she is.

I'd say ok result for labour in the context of them inflicting an unnecessary election on the people of Stoke, rubbish for UKIP (but not as bad as they deserve) pretty good for the Conservatives and as good as we could expect (a year or two ago we would have been squeezed to buggery)

Good Tory result Pleased with that conservative result. 2 percent increase for a party of government that could well have had their vote squeezed. Jack Brereton was clearly the right candidate for us in stoke.

Particularly disappointed with the Green result-we should have at least remained steady even if Stoke-on-Trent is not that Green-friendly.

It's quite irritating that no-one has picked up on UKIP repeating that Stoke Central is their #72 target. I presume this is based on the Brexit constituency guesstimates, but it is considerably higher (#12) under the usual meaning of target list.
