The fash and the hard-Right do seem to have a surprising number of gay representatives in Europe. Fortuyn was gay, a fair few of the FN top brass these days are, and there were of course strong rumours than certain members of the FPÖ were too... Its hardly surprising that a lot of gay people fear the effects of Muslim immigration and "islamization", or that some of them join the far right to try and stop it. Fortuyn was a different kind of right wing btw (not "fash" in any way). Yes, he was definitely more an idiosyncratic type. What Wilders is even more debatable.

I note that the PS somehow managed to hold the 3rd Aisne despite absolutely appalling Presidential results there. Before the election it was one of the longest held PS/SFIO seats in France (every election since 1967 including, bizarrely, 1968) and with the wipe-outs in a lot of other historic bastions might be the longest now (but I've not checked). It's basically a big slice of stunningly bleak manufacturing towns in the north of Picardy.

I don't think you'd end up in any of those places by mistake.

Some more NKM news. Some bloke ran up to her and shoved her whilst out campaigning, ending up with her being knocked out cold. The La REM candidate gallantly suspended campaigning.

Some bloke is the mayor of a village in Normandy (sponsored Claude Guéant, self-proclaimed Gaullism and minister under Sarkozy in the presidential election). He claims he insulted her and never touched her and than she invented that (insinuating she did that to get sympathy votes).

On Monday one seat, the Mayotte one, flipped from LR to PS after a recheck of additions made on Sunday night
Some Les Republicain MPs join UDI in a group called "Les Républicains constructifs, UDI et indépendants". Around 20 MPs from LR are joining it along with 18 from UDI.
PCF won't do a parliamentary group with La France Insoumise. FI have 16 MPs, enough for their own group. PCF have 11 MPs but claim to have got 4 MPs from Outre-mèr to form another group.

And the point of backing Macron was...? To have 40+ members of the National Assembly as opposed to 4.

And the point of backing Macron was...? This isn't about Macron dumping MoDem as a partner. He just has to get rid of those personally involved in the scandal.

Farida Amrani from FI, who was Valls opponent in Essonne-1 has lauched an official complaint to have the results annulled based on alleged fraud in Evry. She base this on:
- Some voter's second round signatures didn't match their first round signatures.
- Some signatures were initially written in pencil, and then overwritten in pen (= someone was practising the signature before officially writing it).
- One polling station had 23 new voters registered between the two rounds.

In order to better promote Left Unity at a time of worrying splits and divisions (the consequences, as we have seen, have included many more FN deputies than would otherwise have been the case) Benoit Hamon has done the obvious, indeed, traditional thing: he has left the PS and founded his own 'movement'.

Will the last person to leave the PS please remember to switch the lights off? I think you're assuming an unproven level of competence there, mon vieux.

Not sure why you would say that, but the constituency includes the commune Corbeil-Essonnes run since 1995 by corrupt right wing "boss" Serge Dassault and his notorious machine, and he backed Valls. The irregularities all happened in Corbeil-Essonnes and Dassault & Co have form for using such shenanigans.
