Thank you for your kind words chaps Yes, its OK- much better than the last one. However, the devastation is immense where it has hit. Mercifully it didn't last long- we only had serious winds (110mph) and heavy rain for around an hour in Manila yesterday. Had it lasted longer there would have been destruction on a truly immense scale. The last one was one of the scariest things I've ever experienced- I was away from Makati and genuinely thought I'd be swept away. Good to have you back Neil!

There doesn't seem to be much variety and original debate going on. Being new to this forum, is it dying or has it always been like this? Are there any statistics available about how active this ever get?
Many thanks

Are there any statistics available about how active this ever get? Many thanks Just look at the bottom of the home page. Over 120,000 posts (although one member alone has posted 10,000 of them) and over 500 members joined since March 2012. 2 staff, 93 members and 1,281 guests online in the past 24 hours. With the greatest respect, it seems a pretty active place to me - certainly for a forum about elections.

We're actually still rapidly growing at an ever increasing rate in terms of numbers of both members and posts...

A forum about elections?
The title is General UK politics.
With the greatest respect.

There are still some members from the old site who haven't posted on here. On the balance of probabilities there must be a few who don't know about the new site which is regrettable.

A forum about elections? The title is General UK politics. With the greatest respect. That is one of the sub-forums. But this forum is principally about elections. The title is boldly displayed at the top of the page as "Vote UK Forum".

General political discussion takes up a large part of this site - there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever and you are quite welcome to try and get "debate" going with that any way you wish - but its "raison d'etre" and USP (as with its deceased predecessor) is discussion of elections and psephology.

The forum is about elections. There is a sub forum on General UK Politics. This one is the Off Topic Sub Forum. It can be politically related but oddly or it can be on the weather. The key point I would make is that given most people here have thought through their politics what is not really worthwhile is trying to persuade people to change their minds. Plenty of other places for that. That is not to say that people here have never shifted their allegiance, several have but not I think because of this forum.

It's worth pointing out that regular members are more likely interested in statistics than policy. And, with due reverence, it's December, not quite highly charged with matters political. Come back in March and April when we're elbow deep in facts, figures, and argument.
(But alas not the Jury Team)

I suspect there are still a few patiently waiting for the "old place" to reopen I tried that for about six months. The "Okay faithful users..." message brought me a bit of false hope, as it turned out.

What an odd bunch of replies. Before I find something more stimulating, what exactly was the 'old' place referred to?

Two minutes listening to any radio station on earth would indicate that today (a day in December) is exceptionally highly charged with matters political. Where on earth have you been? My suspicions about this being a somewhat unelightened, statistic obsessed forum are being confirmed by the minute. Thank you, but the quality of discussion and exchange is very poor. And the activity figures shown simply don't make sense. There is no way that such numbers can collectively generate such a limited series of viewpoints.

You come here on Thursday nights; the local government byelection pages can garner 100s of viewers. We're one of the fastest result services for byelections on the Internet.

That must confirm your earlier comment then. That nothing happens until March? Our "busiest" days are Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays, mostly because of local government byelections in the dedicated threads. Obviously if there's a parliamentary byelection things get busier for that too You have to appreciate that this forum is more in common with UKPolling than, say, Democracy Forum. We're more likely to talk about psephology than policy although you can see from General Discussion that we do get heated when the latter takes over! My reference to March references the fact that we've got local, London and European elections coming up, a very busy time to be discussing politics from all perspectives, statistical or not.
