Lancaster, Westgate was reported earlier as a Labour hold but no figures yet. That only leaves Swanley Christchurch/Village outstanding.

Interesting result. Obviously somebody has been drinking a lot of tea... Following the pattern of defeated Lib Dem general election candidates winning local elections in their constituency with big majorities. David Ward in Bradford 52% in May.. Adrian Sanders in Torbay by-election some huge %... Any others?? Mark Hunter who lost Cheadle was elected to Stockport Council in May from Cheadle Hulme.

Special circumstances in Limpsfield (Tandridge District) - Conservative group plans to 'hammer' the local residents' association were leaked to the press the week before the by-election. Looks like everyone except the most totally committed to their party piled in behind the Residents' Association in response to this.

I presume the dramatic difference in the UKIP performance compared to the County Council result.

I presume the dramatic difference in the UKIP performance compared to the County Council result. Don't see how it's wierd. The county division includes all of Swanley (+Hextable), BUT that ward.

I presume the dramatic difference in the UKIP performance compared to the County Council result. partly that but not so much - suggests that UKIP targeted the county seat which as Maxque says doesn't include this ward. More weird is the superior Labour and LD performances and the relatively poor Tory performance, given that the better Labour areas are in the county seat

Cantrefi covered much smaller swathes of territory than counties; closer to hundreds really. "Pwyll Prince of Dyved was the lord of the seven cantrevs of Dyved" First line of the Mabinogion. NO! First line is 'Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed a oedd yn arglwydd ar seith cantref Dyfed'

"Pwyll Prince of Dyved was the lord of the seven cantrevs of Dyved" First line of the Mabinogion. NO! First line is 'Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed a oedd yn arglwydd ar seith cantref Dyfed' Of all the Celtic nations the Welsh have done the best job of preserving their language and heritage - that is admirable. But is it so bad for an English person to quote great Welsh literature in translation? (assuming the quote is accurate?)
