Exit poll 54-58% No. Live coverage here. Forse andrea potrebbe tradurre quello che stanno dicendo. Usual stuff so far. Opposition calling for Renzi's resignation. Internal PD opposition saying "we were right". PD saying something without saying anything until Renzi himself speaks. Renzi is expected to speak at midnight Italian time. Delayed to 00:20 now, apparently

Si 1.2m votes behind, although it's percentage is slowly climbing (38 to 41). That must be too much of a mountain to climb?

It's pretty much just a few of the Commie areas voting Yes - Florence and Sienna and that (plus the South Tyrol which is obviously a different kettle of fish)

So Matteo Renzi has done a David Cameron. Another martyr to be noted down in the hagiography of the EU

This could be very interesting now. E40Bn recapitalisation of Italian banks on the cards. Possible referendum on Italian Euro membership. All sounds like fun to me Smash it up Burn it down, Kick it till it breaks

So Matteo Renzi has done a David Cameron. I don't think that the comparison works. Renzi called a referendum because he actually wanted to make changes to the constitution where as Cameron called a referendum because of an election pledge that he didn't expect to have to honour.

Italian voter logic: We want to stick it to the establishment and the politicians who aren't listening to us and the system that gets nothing done. Let's vote to keep the establishment and dysfunctional system intact and help keep 215 of those politicians who don't listen to us in power!

Also Cameron lied that he wouldn't resign if the result didn't go his way. I wouldn't go so far to say Cameron is no Renzi but on the surface Renzi appears the more honourable of the two.
