I'm not aware of any particular hostility between AJ and FF, and I imagine it'll be a fairly good-natured runoff.
With that in mind, I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that we're about to see the first example of a prime minister serving two non-consecutive terms since Jacques Chirac.
Also, if you have Sky, there's now coverage on live on TV5 Monde. Who have just jokingly suggested that in a year of surprises, the runoff might be Sarkozy versus Trump.

Hash. Please drop those bloody irritating photos. They waste space and disturb enjoyment of reading. I have taken the unusual step of deleting his signature GIFs myself. What Hash really excels at is maps and I can't wait to see some. And so say all of us. Viva @hash

It would be a kind act, Hash, as your posts are very useful and having that woman whizzing forward and back makes it hard to read them. I have tried posting on the Atlas Forum (where hash is a moderator) but gave up after a short period for a couple of reasons. Firstly it tends to have a rather SJW form of moderation (i.e. the moderators tend to be rather harsh on right wing posters whilst letting left wing posters be quite rude to right wing posters). Of course if people want to have a moderation policy like that the they can, its their forum, but it does tend to drive away right leaning posters and leave a left wing mutual back rubbing forum. This doesn't really appeal to me. However the other major problem with the Atlas Forum is the pictures and Gifs in the signitures. I high proportion of the regular posters have large pictures or Gifs in their signatures, many quite unpleasant on the eye. It makes the threads virtually unreadable. 1. The moderation isn't SJW, it's rather very variable from a moderator to another, but it's true than anything close to far-right/fascism is disliked by moderators on international boards (but don't blame Hash, it was the case years before he became a moderator). 2. There is an option to disable signatures on Atlas, which anybody sane activated years ago.

I don't wish to allow photographs, GIFs or videos in signatures because all indications are that they are irritating to most of the members here. Sorry, it's my rule.

Very informative post - thanks. For most of us on this board, what is most interesting is what and Anglo-phile Fillon presidency would mean for the UK and Brexit?

Does anywhere have a results map? Voilà. I agree with swan's decision (not that there is any mechanism to show dissent anyhow) to remove Hash's sig on the grounds of file size, the space it takes up, lack of relevance to the subject of this forum and acknowledgment that others found it irritating. However, in any other context, I would find moving images of Aubrey Plaza looking sassy very far from objectionable indeed. Right, back on topic: Sarko out earlier than expected. Very good news. Doesn't seem to be topping the poll anywhere on the mainland, which is somewhat amusing. Can't see Fillon being stopped in the run-off now.

Objection to gifs and image sigs in general does tend to demonstrate the average age of this place just a little...

That The GypsyBaron is out, is probably of high importance: Imagine the implications of Berlin&Rome surrounded by "Fascists" like Trump, Putin, Erdogan, Kacynski, Orban, Fico, Strache - and Sarkozy! Also for Mrs.May!

Isn't it upseting, that anglophile Shopkeeper-Liberals and technocrats like Chirac, Juppe, Fillon,... call themselves "Gaullists"? Sure, The General would despise Sarkozy as a foreign ProleParvenu, but aren't the latter and Mrs.LePen nearer to DeGaulle? (As FPÖ is nowadays closer to the chauvinism of Figl and Raab than ÖVP.)

Anybody who is irritated by signatures could simply adjust their settings so that signatures are not displayed. Yes, this is true and well worth pointing out; I should perhaps have mentioned it. But I wouldn't necessarily want to block sight of all signatures for the sake of one. (Needless to say I'm obliged to keep an eye on them personally.)

Interesting that some areas that traditionally have a strong socialist or anti-clerical bent, such as parts of Brittany and the Cevennes, went for the apparently more right-wing Fillon.

Interesting that some areas that traditionally have a strong socialist or anti-clerical bent, such as parts of Brittany and the Cevennes, went for the apparently more right-wing Fillon. There's all kinds of weird tactical reasons for voting going on. Voting to ensure Sarkozy didn't make the second round, voting for the person most likely to defeat Le Pen (although the thinking there may be flawed), etc..., etc... I've heard several people who are certainly more of a centre-left disposition talking about voting for Fillon for those reasons. There's many a twist and turn to this election yet.
