A remarkable achievement by Macron. Within a year create a new party, fund it, find the foot soldiers and win the Palace. Now to use that momentum for the Legislature elections. Brexshit negotiations have just got tougher. Do you realise what a childish dickhead you sound like every time you write that? And I'm sure the gloating of you and your party colleagues about how a result like this is actually going to work against our national interest is really going to impress the voters in places like Portsmouth

Four million blank votes. That's painful...

That was a very Presidential speech by the President-elect just now.
I like "Je veux adresser un salut républicain à mon adversaire, madame Le Pen". Must use that one myself.

Pretty much every media outlet which has pushed the "she could win!" line against all reasonable evidence - which is quite a few outlets, including most of the British ones - has shat the bed with this election. I mean I know why the Daily Mail might want to talk her up, but the FT and Guardian have been doing it too! But Trump won, and Leave won, and this is the just same right? And of course we had no idea how French voters would react to a FN candidate making it to a run off.Yes we did because we saw what happened to her dad. Or did you think that because MLP was marginally less loathsome than her father all would be forgiven. Well yes she has done rather better than her father but still thoroughly thrashed and there were lots of French people holding their noses and reluctantly voting for Macron because it had to be done

35% is an exceptionally poor result for Le Pen when compared to expectations. It will likely weaken her position within the FN quite a bit. Shush, Richard the official Received Wisdom Line is that FN can't be ignored, highest ever vote for a far right candidate etc etc. The fact that she has had the floor wiped with her, and that Fillon's attempt to mimic her also failed, that she was in fact beaten neither by someone tacking to the right nor playing the populist left card, but by a centrist whose main plank was that, whatever his faults, maybe he has some grip on the real world, is not to be mentioned. It must also be noted that he has just been elected on arguably the most liberal economic platform since probably Giscard. If we discard Sarko as being an obvious liar. He's probably offering a more Anglo-Saxon economic programme than every right-wing president.

Pity that the national interest (sic) is going to see a couple of thousand highly skilled technical jobs disappear in an area which can ill afford to lose them. And that is the start. I aint gloatin' sunshine. I is speaking de truth.

Segolene Royal really is extremely rude. She keeps having to be told off for interrupting other guests on France 2.

Anyway it's my second point that should concern you more but I'm sure you don't get that either, cos you're in that bubble that Dan Hodges was talking about www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-4481076/DAN-HODGES-Euro-boor-poster-boy-defeat.html#ixzz4gLmzMJWx (and yes I obviously realise you don't give a fuck what Dan Hodges says either but you should cos he's right )

I don't think anyone suggested 'all' were but that they are nothing like as averse to the populist right as their counterparts in the UK appear to be and indeed far more likely to vote for the FN than the oldest age groups. You also have to consider that the proportion of the electorate who are proper French is likely to be considerably lower amongst the younger age groups than in the oldest

Now I know why Macron is married to a woman in her sixties. It's because he's Francois Bayrou.

Vosges 55% for Macron. Voted 29/20 for Le Pen in the first round so looks like she may not carry any departments
