Which undermines the suggestion that I was going to make, which is that the division is more about social class (actual or self-perceived) than region. Which is more middle class???

I say scone as in "loan", and I am certainly not from the "sarf". I do too. As do I. Bizarrely we had a debate about this at work today.

Banbury is in South East England then the question was a bloody silly one. These are pointless descriptions. Unless it has changed since I lived there (which admittedly was a long tine ago) Banbury definitely feels like the Midlands. Not least because (unlike Oxford) it gets Birmingham telly. The problem is that both Banbury and Henley-on-Thames are in Oxfordshire and the regions are comprised of whole counties.

I say 'scone' to rhyme with 'gone', and I'm a southerner.

"I'm from Preston in Lancashire" Whenever I have need to say this, southerners tend to ask if it's in the north . . . near Birmingham.

You think this says a lot about people Down South, actually it mostly speaks of your own bizarre parochialist myopia. Preston is about as close to the Peak District as Shrewsbury is to Birmingham: i.e. not exactly next door but undeniably near. You're the kind of person who would once have described the next parish as 'abroad'. Also, a fair amount of people who are near to neither tend to confuse the Peak and the Lake districts. And road signs and railway stations will lead you to believe that Preston is fairly close to the latter. You can get regular direct rail services from Preston to Oxenholme and Buxton. So it's hardly surprising.

I often change at Preston when travelling midweek to Manchester and either get a TPE Manchester Airport service or a Northern Rail Buxton service through to Oxford Road.

And will Nuttall stand (if he is still leader) and how many people will save their deposit?

So... who is going to come 2nd. How far backwards will Labour go? My guess now is for a Lib Dem second place, regardless of who stands for UKIP. A distant second place but a second place nevertheless, if they get their campaign organised and up and running quickly and outperform the other parties on the ground. UKIP are likely to save their deposit unless they have a really bad night. There's enough residual vote there to ensure they don't drop too far. The only way they will lose their deposit is if the lib dems increase their percentage by a large amount and snatch away some of their support. Conservatives will have done well if they save their deposit.

And will Nuttall stand (if he is still leader) and how many people will save their deposit? Surely if Nuttall stands, we're surely looking at a lost UKIP deposit. As far as scousers are concerned, lying about Hillsborough is the unforgiveable sin.
