This is how a pragmatic, sensible government would approach devolution rather than relying on irrelevant boundaries drawn hundreds of years ago. That’s not very conservative of you. We’re all allowed a slight deviation every now and again. And actually I think real conservatism is able to differentiate between foundational traditions and historical anachronisms.

Perhaps we could make up for the modernity by naming the brown one covering Cumbria and Galloway "Rheged".

But that should cover realizing that the Scottish border is not, and never has been, irrelevant on the ground. Quite apart from attitudes there's lots of legal and administrative differences, a merger across the line wd have been a nightmare to the people running the council.

Brighton & Hove in the 1970s. This really should be in the pretty maps thread. (In fact the whole thread could usefully go there as there's precious little to do with London in GE24 in much of it).

Brighton & Hove in the 1970s. Knoll was a council estate ward. It's moved right since the 1970s. Maybe right to buy helped that. Tories narrowly won it in 2019. They lost it in 2023, obviously.

I guess, Brighton has made the biggest journey of any area in Britain by being once the residence of pious elderly and now that of libertines?

I asked the mods to create a sub-forum under the general election forum where I could post various election maps from the 2024 general election, particularly my series of ward notional results. I felt they would be buried in the pretty maps thread and it would be more useful as a work of reference (rather like the Almanac sub-forums) if it was separated out and kept all together. I've no idea why it ended up as a sub-forum of the London sub-forum - something to do with the mods not having proper admin rights. It doesn't matter to me very much where the thread resides, as long as it was a discrete thread which was primarily dedicated to the notional results. Naturally I expected (and welcomed) some discussion around the maps and expected that like all threads, the discussion would drift off-topic from time to time. Naively I didn't anticipate that sanders would turn it into another repository for his verbal incontinence, or to pass off other people's work on local elections in the 1970s

I know that’s hard sometimes. You don’t own this thread. There is no passing off. It’s pretty clear whose work it is. You know a lot about maps. Surely you can see the author. Maybe make a blog or something. I’ll be mindful of your sensitivity next term. After all, you blocked me on here after I called you out for insulting my wife (who isn’t on this site and can’t respond).

LocalElec.maps from the 1970ies do really not fit into "General Election 2024".
But this thread is awfully hidden - nearly a wonder i found it!

That’s because the current Admin hasn’t been around to create a separate board for 2024 maps, as Pete Whitehead explained above.
