Pete Whitehead I can’t seem to get a thread started outside the subforums myself for some reason, I’ve stuck one in London just picked it out with being the capital. But could do one in each region if you thought that would be useful

Where did you get the base map for this, or is it your own creation?

Where did you get the base map for this, or is it your own creation? The latter. I'd not been able to do that sort of thing at anything other than a very slow speed for a while due to side effects of antirejection medication, but the doses (and levels) are a lot lower now, so normal service can resume for the while.

It's excellent. I hope you don't mind if I use it going forward (with appropriate credit of course). Perhaps I should sub-contract some of my ward maps to you..

If that map is accurate, it's noticeable that the meagre total of seats to which Labour is reduced are not in the party's traditional heartlands, evidently because turnout in those areas was so low. It's also surprising evidence in support of the proposition that, like him or loathe him, Jeremy Hunt is a political titan.

It's also surprising evidence in support of the proposition that, like him or loathe him, Jeremy Hunt is a political titan. That was my initial reaction - having to look twice that the red ones really were Macclesfield and Beckenham & Penge (probably amongst others equally surprising, those are just the two I am most familiar with). They were both high turnout seats which, irrespective who people voting actually vote for, obviously acts to reduce the Apathy Party vote. The traditional ultra-safe Labour seats were less safe for them this time and also had much lower turnout. As soon as turnout in a seat slips to 60% and below, the winning party needs a lot to beat the Apathy Party.

Corbyn's seat and St Ives are interesting outliers on that map.

I don’t think people should be that surprised at which seats Labour still hold against the ‘Apathy Party’. It’s not just about competitiveness, but the fact they have the social composition that leads to higher turnout. Conversely, safe Labour seats are almost completely missing from that list because of the great deal of overlap between Labour voting demographics and low turnout demographics.
