I make that just six LibDem "wins" (tho' shouldn't Portsmouth be there??)
And just ONE Independent "win" - same as the Greens. Given the councils that were up, quite remarkable.

No Conservatives won the poplar vote in Portsmouth. There are seven LDs - South Lakeland, Oadby & Wigston, North Norfolk, Watford, Three Rivers, Eastbourne and Eastleigh. They were lucky with the wards which came up in Three Rivers - if all wards were up it would have been different. Quite notable that the LDs carried no areas in the South West

There were quite a few wards where the Conservatives didn't have candidates, but only one with no LD. May have made the difference (not only by denying Tory votes in those wards, but giving extra votes to the LDs by Tory supporters, the other candidates generally being Labour and Green and in one case just Labour)

I make that just six LibDem "wins" (tho' shouldn't Portsmouth be there??) I'm not sure that the LibDems have ever won the popular vote in Portsmouth in recent years, despite having overall control of the council. Their vote must be very efficiently distributed in comparison to the Conservatives. Yep, I made the point about our result last year that if you took out the Drayton & Farlington statistics (a ward where the Conservative majority was 2149 over Labour) the Lib Dem and Tory vote was almost identical over the rest of the city by we won 9 seats to their three.

Amusingly, if you zoom too far out of Cheshire on Cheshire East/Cheshire West's interactive mapping page, it comes up with "Here be dragons!".

I wonder if anyone has seen the new Vision of Britain site, Old Maps Online? As well as having most of the boundary maps on Vision of Britain, it also has a large number of 1960s OS maps, and the ones from 1968 have the wards delineated for boroughs and urban districts. Hours of fun.

And apparently it was bin day at my parents when streetview was taken.
