a hardcore of determined nutjobs, randoms, obsessives and general discontents. The Liberal Democrats? Sounds like Northern Ireland.

We've all heard this before ... Orson Welles as Harry Lime, from The Third Man, of course. * The cuckoo clock is not, however, a Swiss thing at all, but you'll find plenty of them in the Black Forest in Germany.
The Swiss may not have invented the Cuckoo Clock but the last time I went there (OK it was circa 1958) on a school holiday the shops were full of them. I brought back three or four of them for members of my family.

I think he was elected after the UK's exit.
He's quite a weird choice by En Marche. He was 22nd of the list. He apparently has two "casseroles" hung to him since the announcement in the list. He was apparently simultaneously an advisor to the malatan and the french government. It made him resign his position for the french government. There was also something about the San Marino central bank.
"Maltan"? I presume you mean "Maltese". Maybe he means that they are very keen on discounted clothing and homeware?

Not sure I'd class it as defecting in a traditional sense, but Andrew Yang has started his own party, the Forward Party. Its beliefs are, as you'd expect, Yang's - "human centered capitalism", electoral reform and economic reform.

I remember reading about them in Ian Kershaw's books about Hitler. Had no idea they still existed. Yes, fairly limited presence but they've got a seat on Rhein-Kreis Neuss and Kreis Cloppenburg and they have about half a dozen seats at lower levels in NRW. They have about 300 members.

Italian Foreign Secretary is leaving Movement 5 Stars. A press conference is expected in half an hour. Deputy Secretary for Economy Laura Mcastelli, under-secretary for Health Pierpaolo Sileri and former cabinet minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora are set to follow him in a newly created party.

Surely posting Italian or French politicians in this thread is cheating?
