It looks like 29 30 31 by-elections during July 2016: * 1 on 1st July (Friday) * 3 on 7th July * 10 on 14th * 10 on 21st * 1 on 26th (Tuesday) * 1 on 27th (Wednesday) * 5 on 28th
11 of the by-elections are for District Councils last contested in 2015 - with 2 of these having a subsequent by-election in October 2015 and January this year 1 is for a district council with elections in 2016 2 had elections in May this year, 1 for a Metropolitan Borough and 1 an Unitary Authority 6 are for London Boroughs last contested in 2014 2 are for County Councils last contested in 2013 4 are in Unitary Authorities last contested also in 2013 and 5 are in Wales where the last elections were in 2012
Conservatives are defending 11 seats, 6 following the death of the previous Councillor, 5 after a resignation Labour is defending 10 seats, 2 after a death and 8 a resignation Liberal Democrats defend 2 seats, 1 each after a death and resignation UKIP and Plaid Cymru each defend 2 seats, all arising from a resignation Independents defend 4 seats, 2 following a death and 2 a resignation
With Nominations for all 31 contests now known: Conservatives contest 29 seats, Labour 26, Liberal Democrats 25, UKIP 13, Green 11 whilst there are 14 Independents contesting 9 seats - along with 3 Plaid Cymru and 1 each for Christian People's Alliance, Independent East Devon Alliance, Justice, Mebyon Kernow, No Description, People before Profit and Yorkshire 1st a total of 128 candidates for the 31 seats.
Predictions on this thread by 9.00 am on day of election.
