Hangers here refers to the Hampshire Hangers (like in the Hangers Trail) which are steep wooden slopes, the ward in right in the middle of them. Forest refers to Liss Forest, an hamlet of the Liss parish which is in this ward rather than in the Liss ward.

Also to be found in London's famous Hanger Lane and its notorious Interchange. Hard to believe there was a wooded slope there once, but true it must be.
