It has, seemingly, though, been called for Labor.

Although the AEC's site indicates some 500+ envelopes yet to process, the eight vote lead for Cathy O'Toole appears to be final in terms of votes on the first round.

As the press notice indicates, on a normal count they would now move to full preference distribution, which often turns up minor errors in the original 2pp count which was based on the assumption that ALP/LNP would be the final two. But because this process is still likely to produce an extremely narrow margin they have gone straight to the full recount. I wouldn't assume anything at this stage, as Palmer's numbers moved around quite a lot in the 2013 recount in Fairfax.

The AEC shows an ALP lead of 13 with no envelopes yet to process. But I think that's pre-recount.

Even a corrupt banana republic could hold a better organized election. What are these total wankers up to and do they know the derision they are held in world wide? I don't care who wins any more.

How do you get an absent vote for the wrong electorate? There aren't very many western democracies where that happens.

Polling places outside the electorate don't have full electoral rolls, so when a voter casts an absent vote they make a declaration of their electorate. The declaration is only accepted when the ballot is repatriated to the relevant electorate for verification.

They cast a full ballot the same as any other voter, the only difference is that the ballot needs to be checked against the electoral roll to confirm the declaration.

Is letting voters vote at any polling station really a necessity (if you're away for work, couldn't you just get a postal)? Or does it just mean people don't bother checking where their designated polling station is?
