I believe that the Labour candidate for Tollesbury will do well next Thursday, at least he doesn't shoot people's dogs! There are many dogs that should be shot ... and many cats too !!!!

Well I have got to say something to stop my negative karma falling even further ,
Seriously , the Independent candidate may do well , he is well known locally albeit from the neighbouring village of Tolleshunt D'Arcy

All three candidates are very well known in Tollesbury. That's why this by-election is so interesting.

Some are well known for the wrong reasons though! Whatever happens, I'm sure the best man will win.

I thought he was a hero in a Mills and Boon novel "her eyes met the dark gaze of squire Tolleshunt D'Arcy, then she lowered them, blushing'

Well Midsomer is fiction. DB has the right date of the Bamber family shootings.

Still an extremely controversial case in the local area to this day.

Some observations from the Westgate thanet election… The ward is very neatly split into 2 areas – a Labour stronghold and a Tory one. Labour should win the ward except for their vote generally staying at home en masse, which lets the Tories win excepts that Tom King the very popular local Independent tops the poll. the Tories scoop the next two councillors.
labour’s campaign here has been very closely focussed on getting their known vote out – if they can manage 500 they’ll feel confident. They have been almost completely targetting their half of the ward, and by lunchtime sensed they were in with a chance, bussing loads of councillors and activists in during the afternoon and starting their knocking up about noon.
The Tories were totally thrown, initially by the huge UKIP presence and then later by the labour response. Their half of the ward was also the most vulnerable to the Tom king supported Independent Ash Ashbee. They had a heavy presence at the Tory polling station throughout the day, but rarely had a teller in the Labour polling station. UKIP had tellers at both stations throughout the day as di the Tories. Labour abandoned the Tory station about 7 to focus everyone on knocking up their half of the ward.
No LD or other Indie presence spotted anywhere all day.
By early evening Labour were starting to call it for themselves, but it really could be incredibly close between the two ain parties, with UKIP still a possible outside shot.

That is a very impressive gain. Most of that must be down to a very impressive local candidate, but it's nevertheless something we couldn't have done a year ago.
And it's one less council we're shut out of.
