Think that should be Royton Fiona? Is it possible to amend the name of the thread? I thought I'd read previously that this wasn't easy, so maybe the Moderator(s) could help?

Very sad news. What will be interesting here is what type of Labour candidate will be nominated. One with Corbyn like views, a New Labour type candidate, or something completely different? Potentially it won't be particularly informative as the NEC will still control the compilation of the shortlist, and I'm guessing that the CLP representation on the panel will be from the Officers, who are likely to be quite long-serving and not new Corbynistas. Having said that, it's probable that the shortlist will be somewhat closer to the Corbyn wing as they usually (though not always) attempt to create something not too far removed from the previous Members' politics. |

It's probably very inappropriate to speculate so soon after Michael Meacher's death, but I would expect the main issue in the selection may well be ethnicity rather than political position.

There are only two sets of views in the Labour Party: the correct Corbynist views, and Blairite-Neo Liberalist saboteurs (ie, everyone sensible). |

Sorry to hear about Michael Meacher. Seemingly one of the more mild mannered characters of the left, as well as the unofficial stand-in when Tony Benn wasn't available - hence his candidacy in the 1983 Labour deputy leadership contest. |

Galloway has to ba a possibility. Even as the Labour candidate... The seat does not really have the correct profile for Galloway to get up to his antics unless we was the Labour candidate. I seriously doubt that he would be. I was given to understand that he'd been told he wouldn't be readmitted. |

If Galloway does run for Respect, I highly doubt he would be able to repeat Bradford West, even with a large Asian Muslim population here.

I'd vote for Lembit, lol  Anyway, I've seen that Ed Balls is being touted around a bit for Labour. Not sure why he'd want it, but clearly the sane part of the Labour Party is wanting some heavyweights back in the game. |
