The final overseas shares can be found here: secim.aa.com.tr/YurtDisiENG.html slightly different to the previous numbers I gave. Ireland and Spain gave pluralities to the CHP (42% and 46% respectively, less than 1,000 voters in both cases though). Total UK votes cast is recorded as 33,558.

The HDP support is a mixture of Kurdish and progressive left wing secular. Yes, a mixture of about 99% to 1%.

So a clear majority of Turkish nationals are ethnic Turks. Is it a case of there being major differences in turnout between the two ethnic groups or is there a genuine tendency amongst ethnic Turks from Turkey living in the UK to support the kind of far-left politics espoused by HDP ? I would presume it must be the former. I would imagine the major factors here would be ethnic Turks living in Britain no longer feeling loyalty and affinity to the Turkish state while Kurdish Turks living in Britain still having an affinity to the idea of a Kurdish state and having a negative view of the Turkish state. The latter would therefore be much more motivated to vote.

It may have been initially but the expansion of this group has been down to non-Kurdish voters outside their core area. Notably in Istanbul. And those attracted to.it are left wingers who understandably don't really rate the official opposition. And as I say they have a distinctive policy on equalities which has attracted a specific niche - remember they still only have 11% of the vote
