To the surprise of no one, the HDP dominate the votes cast in Britain: HDP 59.6, CHP 20.9, AKP 14.2, MHP 3.1. Equally unsurprising is the AKP domination of votes cast in Germany: AKP 53.5, HDP 17.8, CHP 15.7, MHP 7.3.

When Erdogan first appeared, I quite foolishly believed that he was what he claimed to be- an Islamic mirror of a Christian Democrat. Of course, I was enormously misguided. His attitude towards the Kurds has suddenly become more hardline as soon as it became politically expedient, for example. There's no necessary contradiction between cynical opportunism and Christian democracy. He's not a great democrat, but he probably does still just about fit in that tradition, if increasingly at it's populist, authoritarian end.

He's disappointed me massively. As recently as 5 years ago I still thought he was a 'Good Thing' (TM), but it'c clear he has (like Putin) completely lost the plot now and is doubling-down instead of backing off. I hope the CHP can find a popular leader that can sink the AKP, because the HDP can never be the largest party.

There were some soviet style percentages recorded by the HDP in the East. On a holding night for Atatürk's cronies they at least managed a win in one of the Black Sea provinces, but interestingly it seems that AKP have taken a beating in Ankara (although still holding the province) but Istanbul was (relatively) OK (Erdogan's) home.
Motormouth himself has not been seen on Turkish media for 24hrs. A possible court case beckons as he spent the entire campaign crapping on the Constitution; Turkish presidents being supposedly neutral.

As expected AKP&MHP are negotiating. Erdogan reminds one a little bit of ... Harper: Both failed with their strategy to absorb the MinorityNation and had nothing to loose in Quebec/Kurdistan.

In 2006/7 his government recognized the Quebec-French as a nation. But before 2008 the cuts in culture&arts annoyed the French mostly and then Harper demonstrated openly against separatism - wasn't it like this?

But before 2008 the cuts in culture&arts annoyed the French mostly and then Harper demonstrated openly against separatism - wasn't it like this? Well, Harper, like all other federal party leaders is against separatism and yes, the cuts were very umpopular in Quebec. The motion was saying than Quebec was a "nation into an united country". The nation thing isn't pro or anti independence, in that context, "nation" doesn't mean country, but an area with people culturally and linguistically very different from the rest of the country, but, yet, in that country. The concept of nation is quite more complicated than the concept of country and what it exactly means varies between each person. But, clearly, that's nothing compared to Turkish policies towards Kurds, which aim at destroying and silencing Kurds, calling them terrorists to destabilise them and other nice things like that.

Erdogan has improved the situation for the Kurds quite a lot - so far, and therefor had received a certain support from them - formerly!

Certain events across the border appear to have changed matters on that front.

As expected AKP&MHP are negotiating. Sorry for that wrong Information. I relied on an article (which claimed as a certainty, that clandestine and serious talks were happening) in the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung", normally the bestinformed daily in the GermanSpeakingOrbis. (An old BonMot among Austrian diplomats: "If You want to succeed in the EntranceExamination of Vienna You need only 2 knowledges: That of the FrenchLanguage and of the 'International'-Pages of the 'NZZ'...")

I think that makes it at least four big elections coming up before the end of the year: Canada, Greece, Turkey, Spain.

With the terrible news of the bombs seemingly aimed at the Kurdish opposition yesterday how credible is Turkish democracy ? Still going strong. Latest polling indicates the AKP will fall short again (one poll has them on 39%) with the HDP comfortably over 10%.

Part 2 today. Barring one poll which had the AKP @ 47; it again looks too close to call regarding an AKP majority and a further term of Sultan Erdogan 1st attempting to reshape Turkey in his own image.
The Nationalist MHP are under the cosh here. The question is whether the AKP can draw enough votes from the MHP to balance a possible near wipe out in the East at the hands of the HDP.
The Kurdish party are forecast to go above the gerrymandered threshold.

From the JamesinTurkey blogging site. Early indications are a rise in support for the AKP/CHP. The HDP are flat and struggling. The MHP are being clattered to all parts.
The AKP are forecast to have a majority.
