Polling day will be 9th July for these. There is also a 2nd vacancy on Hastings BC - St Helens ward due to the resignation of Conservative councillor Matthew Lock. I've also just found out that the new Labour leader of the Council has given 2 cabinet posts to the Conservatives. Not sure why.

With the Tories back in government there might be a chance of a pick-up by Labour in St Helens. i wonder if the two Tories on the cabinet is a precursor to going to a committee system, otherwise I can't see why that's happened.

(Mrs ColinJ is one of the Labour candidates.)

Its been Labour policy for years to have a proportionate Cabinet in Hastings - for a few years the Tories didn't take their seats, but got shamed back into taking them after Labour kept tweeting and publicising photos of the three empty seats that were always laid out for them, complete with papers. The argument for a proportionate Cabinet is that between Full Council meetings there is very little opportunity to challenge policies, and Labour have said for the past five years they welcome that challenge.

The argument for a proportionate Cabinet is that between Full Council meetings there is very little opportunity to challenge policies, and Labour have said for the past five years they welcome that challenge. The real reason for it of course is that if the Tories take their seats they would essentially have to reciprocate if they were in control. Now that with a Tory government there's little chance of them taking back control anytime soon Labour has been taken up on their far to clever offer and now have to share power with a party that's probably now going to get even smaller. I always thought that Hastings Labour sometimes overstretched themselves by being too clever by half and this would now seem to be the case!

30th July - 2Aberdeen UA, Hilton / Stockethill - SNP resigned (now MP for Aberdeen North) Aberdeen UA, Kincorth / Loriston - DNP resigned (now MP for Aberdeen South) These two wards have been renamed since the 2012 elections. Hilton/Stockethill is now Hilton/Woodside/Stockethill, while Kincorth/Loirston is now Kincorth/Nigg/Cove. Glasgow doesn't have a ward called City Centre. The vacancy is actually in Anderston/City.

The Tories made it clear that they would only have a one party cabinet and did up from 2006-2010. It was actually a principled stand believe it or not! (I was a councillor there when the decision was taken back in 2010)
