He won it in 1998 in a single-member election at the ordinary council elections. In 1999 there was an all-out election with rewarding, and he came third so was elected for a single year term. In 2000 he retained his seat in a single-member election. That can't be right. 1999: all-up due to re-warding, 1st placed gets full 4-year term, 2nd placed gets 3-year term, 3rd placed gets 2-year term.

Assuming there aren't any on 24 December, that last week before Christmas is going to be complicated as there are byelections on the Tuesday and on the Wednesday as well as four (at least) on Thursday.

Interesting that UKIP are only standing one candidate in a ward which they topped in May. Do they have an 'arrangement'with Patria? Maybe peterl can explain.

Its disappointing we only have one candidate, although we did only stand one candidate for the three seats in May. I am not aware of any arrangement with Patria.

Aylesbury Vale holding a by-election two days before Christmas? Can anyone tell me what the record low for a local by-election turnout is (because I think we may have a challenger for that title)?

Let's see if we can cast more votes in VUKPOTY than the electorate of Aylesbury Vale manage in their by-election.

There have over the years been many by-elections held in the week before Christmas. In particular, I think there was one in East Herts on 23rd December 2010 when an Independent retained a seat, although I cannot find the details of the result.
