So when are they actually going to publish the bloody things? Mike Smithson said Lord Ashcroft's latest batch of polls would be published next week.

Lord Ashcroft ramping his Scottish constituency polls, probably with good cause, these will be very interesting polls It would be difficult for them not to to be interested given that most Scottish polls are something like SNP 48%, Lab 28%.

They would be just as interesting if they showed Labour was still ahead in most constituencies, of course.

Exactly, that statement by Ashcroft can be read more than one way - and the rumour is they might not show the SNP doing as brilliantly as some national polls suggest.

Am reserving judgement but this would be my guess as well. Think labour will still lose a few seats in Scotland but am not convinced it'll lose anywhere near the number that has been suggested. Of course I could be proved totally wrong.......

Ashcroft just mentioned that the SNP surge is "real" in his interview with STV regarding these polls. They're likely to show labour getting demolished.

The second statement does not automatically follow from the first - remember that Labour outpolled the SNP by more than 2 to 1 in 2010.

I'm both excited about seeing what's happening in Scotland and terrified that Ashcroft will put us 3rd in one or more of our held seats. My biggest nightmare is that it happens somewhere really unexpected.

I generally find constituency polls useful but it's important to remember their history pre-2010 - I'm thinking about Brighton Pavillion and (more obviously) Norwich South.
