I've just got back from working the ward today as well - we covered a large area but in small pieces so that may explain why we missed the Labour team... If they were where it sounds they were, they may be feeling as deflated as we were when we were there... On the rare occasion you find someone in, they're too busy to talk and don't seem to know much about the local issues! I am desperately trying to rearrange telling so I'm not at one particular station all day... as it may be quite quiet!

Keith, in the current (distressing) climate UKIP ought to win Sheppey Central. Indeed, just to put some pressure on, it will be a major disappointment to them if they don't. But it is not certain. On a low turn out the Tories could get a core vote out to win. There are enough places in the ward where you would expect them to have that support. Nor, are Labour out of the running. The vote is loyal in most places and it depends on how the other two parties split. Of course, if we did come through the middle there would be a chorus of "vote UKIP get Miliband" when they would actually be getting the best candidate, Alan Henley. Shame you can't take part, though it is helping us. Still, it is shocking that your local party cannot find anyone to stand in a by election at a key moment in the electoral cycle. What happens now is not what will happen in May. But Central is a pretty good bellwether on the Island, as Kemsley was when we had a by election there. So, it is poor not to be involved.

For a moment there, I thought Marilyn Manson was standing for the Lib Dems! Would certainly be an interesting campaign if he was the candidate! I keep nearly saying this on the doorstep.

Stonking win for UKIP Sheppey. Reflects current mood in places like Sheppey but they ran a good campaign with their limited resources. Only 19% voted.

A close result between Cons and UKIP. Don't kid yourself on this one, Pimp! It is shaping up to be a solid Conservative win, despite the unfortunate choice of candidate.
