I don't see how anyone could be offended by that? Obviously parties will try to take it out of context to make political capital, but actually offended? It really does take a leap to pretend that Hitler wasn't a master of public speaking doesn't it? But given some of the rather dodgy right wing statements made by UKIP members, one would have thought that the person concerned would have had more sense than use him as any sort of role model. Or maybe not.

Anyway, the government seems done for but it isn't certain if there will be a Left majority.

Anyway, the government seems done for but it isn't certain if there will be a Left majority. Latest poll had SD/L/Green at 48.7%, which when you take out F! + Others is about bang on 50%. Both the Christian Democrats and the Centre Party are mighty close to the 4% threshold, although I don't think it's very common for parties to drop out of Parliament.

Especially the Centre Party- agrarian parties seem to have an exceptionally solid core across Scandinavia (except for Denmark).

The Centre Party is in trouble because it has alienated its hick base for yuppie wankers in Stockholm.

Yup - three university degrees, elected Fellow of three learned societies, and a university professor. In my experience, that has more to do with how much time and earning power you are willing to waste on bullshit and self-indulgence than intelligence, provided that one's intelligence is beyond a certain minima (which admittedly is highish). I would confidently say that PhDs who don't do a postdoc are by and larger more intelligent than those who do.

I would argue that PhD students who go 'bugger this for a game of soldiers' are in reality the most intelligent, but I might be biased

But anyway MAPS! This shows leading by party by constituency in 2010. And this shows party support in 2010.

WAIT THERE'S MORE! Leading party for electoral division (I think that will do as an approximation) within/around the largest cities. Party support in Stockholm. Party support in Gothenburg.

To preempt the usual question, Swedish industrialisation was weird and centred on small towns and the countryside to a greater extent than normal; this has had an effect on geographies of class, and (in turn) voting patterns. Farmers do not vote SAP. Also, Sweden is a big country with a small population for its size, so less of the countryside has been commuterised.

Fancy the Sweden Democrats having a strong presence on the outskirts of Malmo...
Anyway, is there any real difference between the Moderates and the Liberal People's Party these days? Would it not be worth them merging?

Thanks sibbs. Lovely maps. When do the results start to come in chaps? I remember from last time that results started coming in as soon as the polls closed which I think was at 7pm Swedish time.

It's increasingly likely that the Feminist party may scrape into parliament.

It's increasingly likely that the Feminist party may scrape into parliament. I don't know but I assume it is a bit strident and leftist and possibly green? Thus it will only prosper at expense of the more mainstream leftist parties? So overall effect may be neutral in 'left-right' terms with perhaps a small downside to the left?
