Helmer may well do Indeed so dok. Noted your stream of humour in the face of temporary reverses. On mornings like this it is well to remember that we all have mornings of triumph and of extreme loss. One so soon may turn into the other. Events will often decide and cycles in approval are inevitable. We may look at one another from changed aspects ere long. I'm a Liberal Democrat in Preston, I know extreme loss.

I'm a Liberal Democrat in Preston, I know extreme loss. If I may say so, you cope with it so much better than you coped with winning. Hahaha, you snarky twunt. Funny line. I'm turning that into an anecdote.

Will Farage be kicking himself if UKIP DO win in Newark? No. He will be delighted. He will comment and praise. He will be free to roam and campaign. He will not need to worry about holding it at the GE. Does Helmer have to give up EU seat if/when elected at Newark? If so he will be in a high risk position of being MP for a short time only and being financially very disadvantaged. He has adopted a very high risk strategy for the party. You can't be a member of both, no. So the days of Ian Paisley with two or three hats are behind us.

Will Farage be kicking himself if UKIP DO win in Newark? No. The one thing Farage doesn't want is to be UKIP's only MP. Having the job of being a solitary backbench MP of a party with no support from a party group would prevent him from leading UKIP (just as it prevented Caroline Lucas) and to be honest it wouldn't really suit his character, I'm sure he'd get extremely bored of it. Also as he said himself he has no connection to the area so wouldn't necessarily be their best candidate. When he was asked last week in Essex if he would consider standing for an Essex seat in 2015 he said 'They wouldn't have me because I'm not from round here' (he's from Kent). When he runs in 2015 it will probably be in Kent, Possibly East Sussex but no further than that.

I would have pinned it down to three seats in Kent - Thant North, Thanet South and Folkestone & Hythe - Thatnet NOrth being the least likely because of Roger Gale's incumbency and Thant South the most likely. However the party did exceptionally well in Medway in the European elecions and I wonder if one of the seats there may look like a good prospect. Gillingham for example

and every single office holder at every level in the party is expected to invade the Notthinghamshire town. Guido plunging to quite incredible depths of either stupidity or deceit with this quite ludicrous claim.

Wouldn't recommend using Euro election results as a form guide, even if the by-election is five seconds later.

Anyone know if AIFE are intending to stand in the by-election? Are you not aware that the by election is next week and as such the SOPN has been out for some time?
