14 of the contests are in District Councils - 12 of which held their last elections in 2011 with 2 having "annual" elections last held in 2012 5 of the contests are in Unitary Authorities - 3 last having "all out" elections in 2011 with the other 2 in 2013 3 are in Metropolitan Borough with "annual" elections last held in 2012 2 in County Councils where the elections were May 2013 and 1 in Scotland last held in 2012
Conservatives are defending 11 seats, 7 arising from the death of the former councillor and 4 following a resignation Labour is defending 8 seats, 2 following a death, 5 a resignation and 1 from a disqualification for non-attendance Lib Dems are defending 2 seats, both after a resignation Independents are defending 3 seats, all following a death whilst SNP defend 1 seat after the death of its former councillor

I wonder who noticed that the Indie in Wilts nearly won the next door ward in 2013. He was the sitting councillor in Southwick, having gained it at a byelection in autumn 2009. Also note that the UKIP candidate, Rod Eaton, was a Conservative councillor in Wiltshire from 2009 but defected to UKIP immediately before the 2013 election: www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/10290637._/
