Just having to email East Hants Electoral Services, who don't want to accept our candidate for Petersfield Butser because he doesn't live in the division. Sigh.

It's such a pity, because she has been so helpful so far. Of course, when I submitted nomination papers for the Four Marks & Medstead by election last year, she took them without a murmur even though our candidate didn't live in the ward...

You don't have to live in the division, just live, work, or have the right to occupy property somewhere within the whole authority. It's there right on the form, don't EROs actually look at the paperwork any more nowadays? (Tho', I did once have to drive 20 miles to the far ends of our council area to get a new nomination form filled out because the candidate had got it signed by people who didn't actually live in her ward - which is required.)

The by-election in Gedling with provide yet another contrast between the LD capacity to deliver in seats where they are dug in and the more transient gains made in many other places in the late 90's and naughties.
In Gedling the LDs went into the elections in 2011 with a full slate of councillors in 4 wards. Post the election they had 3 Cllrs in split wards.
It is likely that this will now become 2 Cllrs as Labour make a further gain.

Probable impending vacancies Mid Devon DC, Cranmore - Lib Dem admitted defrauding the District Council, was to be sentenced 31st January. Kevin Wilson has been given a 10 week suspended jail sentence - which is just under the threshold for disqualification.

SOPN published by Cheshire East for March 13th b/e in Crewe West.
5 candidates: Lab, Con, Lib Dem, UKIP & Independent.
The Ind is the son of a long-serving Labour Cllr & Hon Alderman, who signed the nom paper [so if he's still a Labour member it won't be for much longer!).

Most unusual , Martin Terry , Independent councillor for Westborough ward on Southend UA has announced that he is to resign his seat ( not due up till 2015 ) so that he can stand in Thorpe ward against Alex Kaye ( due up this May ) who was elected as an Independent but controversially joined the Conservatives . It will mean a by election in Westborough ward presumably to be held in May . What happens if Alex Kaye chicken runs to a safe Conservative ward is unclear . She is most unlikely to win Thorpe ward as a Conservative .
