The number of first preference votes in the Hamilton South ward of South Lanarkshire on 3 May 2012 was:
Lab 2,775, SNP 1,757, Con 496, All Scotland Pensioners Party 199, Scottish Christian Party 165 (Total 5,392)
In percentage terms this is
Lab 51%, SNP 33%, Con 9%, All Scotland Pensioners Party 4%, Scottish Christian Party 3%
There are some marked variations between polling districts, with the SNP ahead at Woodside Primary School and Chatelherault Primary School.
Under new arrangements for the publication of information from electronic counts in Scotland, the Returning Officer published a detailed report of the first preferences by ballot box, aggregating smaller boxes to preserve the confidentiality of individual votes. Here is some background to the by-election in the Huntingdon West ward of Huntingdon Town Council in Huntingdonshire District (Cambridgeshire).
Huntingdon Town Council comprises 19 members elected from three wards – Huntingdon East (8), Huntingdon North (4) and Huntingdon West (7).
New electoral arrangements and ward boundaries were introduced for the elections on 5 May 2011. The town wards are coterminous with the district wards of the same name.

Patricia Shrapnel (Lib Dem) gained a seat from Con in Huntingdon East ward on 13 September 2012, following the tragic death of John Skerry (Con) in a diving accident in Scotland on 8 May 2012. He was due to be married on 19 May 2012.
The present by-election is caused by the resignation of Andrew Bish (Con) for personal reasons.
The candidates are Lib Dem, Con, Independent and Lab.

Here is some background to the by-election in the Bushell ward of Newton Abbot Town Council in Teignbridge District (Devon).
Newton Abbot Town Council comprises 18 members elected from five wards – Bradley (4), Buckland (3), Bushell (4), College (4) and Milber (3).
Bradley, Bushell and College town council wards are coterminous with the district wards of the same name, whilst Buckland and Milber wards are combined with Haccombe Urban ward from the neighbouring parish of Haccombe with Combe, to form the Buckland and Milber district ward.
The council strengths were:
Elections on 3 May 2007: Lib Dem 14, Con 3, Independent 1 Bradley ward was uncontested; the Conservatives fielded only 6 candidates.
Elections on 5 May 2011: Lib Dem 10, Con 5, Independent 2, Vacant 1

The result of the election in Bushell on 5 May 2011 (4 seats) was: 1 Lib, 2 Con unopposed – 1 vacant.
On 8 June 2011, the Council co-opted Kenneth Purchase (Lib Dem) to fill the vacancy in Bushell ward. He had been an unsuccessful candidate in College ward.
On 11 August 2011. Mandy Voaden (Lib Dem) held the seat in Bushell ward. Simon Key (Lib Dem) was elected on 5 May 2011, but appears not to have taken up his seat. The voting was Lib Dem 327, Con 317.
On 24 July 2013, the Council co-opted Julie Cleave to the vacant seat in Buckland ward, following the resignation of Georgina Antao (Lib Dem).
The town council website now shows two members as Independents, who were elected in 2011 under party banners – namely Anne Fry (formerly Lib Dem) in Bradley ward and Kelvyn Shantry (formerly Con) in College ward. Anne Fry, the sitting Liberal Democrat councillor for the Newton Abbot North division of Devon, was apparently deselected. She stood in the 2013 county council elections as an Independent, polling 347 votes, but coming fourth behind Conservative, Lib Dem and UKIP candidates. The result was a Conservative gain from Lib Dem with a majority of 80.
The town council website continues to show Carol Bunday (College) and Mike Hocking (Bradley) as Liberal Democrats, although they have recently become members of the Independent Group on Teignbridge District Council.
The present by-election is caused by the resignation of Neil Wilson (Con).
The three candidates are Lib Dem, Con and UKIP.

Here is some background to the by-elections in the Glyncoch and Treforest wards of Pontypridd Town Council in Rhondda Cynon Taff Borough.
Pontypridd Town Council comprises 23 members elected from eleven wards – Cilfynydd (2), Glyncoch (2), Graig (2), Hawthorn (2), Ilan (1), Rhondda (3), Rhydfelen Central (2), Rhydfelen Lower (1), Town (2), Trallwng (3) and Treforest (3).
Glyncoch, Treforest and 5 other town wards are coterminous with the borough wards of the same name. Hawthorn borough ward comprises the Hawthorn and Rhydfelen Lower town wards and Rhydfelen Central/Ilan borough ward comprises the Ilan and Rhydfelen Central town wards.
Unfortunately my copy of the 2008 Declarations of Result of Poll has become corrupted, although 8 Lab and 1 PC were returned unopposed, with 2 vacancies in Treforest ward.
The council strengths were: Elections on 1 May 2008: Elections on 3 May 2012: Lab 18, PC 3, Lib Dem 1, Vacant 1
The town mayor is Labour.
The result of the election in Glyncoch on 1 May 2008 (2 seats) was: Lab 2 unopposed
The result of the election in Treforest on 1 May 2008 (3 seats) was: Lab 1 unopposed – 2 vacancies
The result of the election in Glyncoch on 3 May 2012 (2 seats) was: Lab 2 unopposed
The result of the election in Treforest on 3 May 2012 (3 seats) was: Plaid Cymru 1, Lab 1 unopposed – 1 vacancy
The town council co-opted Lewis Fackrell (Lab) to fill the vacancy in Treforest ward. Lewis Fackrell had stood unsuccessfully in Trallwng ward, where a Lib Dem took the third seat.
On 30 May 2013, Brian Watts (Lab) held a seat in Rhondda ward, following the death of Pam Harper (Lab).
The present by-elections are caused by the resignations of Derrick Williams (Lab) in Glyncoch and Ceri Carter (Plaid Cymru) in Treforest
The two candidates in Glyncoch are Lab and Plaid Cymru. The four candidates in Treforest are The Pluralist Party – Treforest’s People’s Party, Plaid Cymru, Lib Dem and Lab.
Dzôn Bishop was also the candidate for The Pluralist Party – Wales’s People’s Party in the Rhondda by-election and polled 3 votes. He served as a town councillor between 2008 and 2012, having been co-opted to fill one of the vacancies in Treforest ward.
