Mr Chorlton failed to get re-elected to the local authority in May so his star is not exactly in the ascendency.

The final candidate is from the Socialist Labour Party, and she's called Kathrine Jones

My suspicion at this stage is that Rhun will hold it for Plaid. Labour will probably close the gap a bit - purely down to the amount they'll throw at this, but I don't think they'll get close enough.

It should be a straightforward Plaid hold. Plaid have momentum following the local elections - while Labour's momentum is going in the opposite direction - and their parachuted in candidate will not help, no matter how much money they throw at this seat!

I predict lots of high profile visits from Labour people to Ynys Mon in the next few weeks and telephone canvasing to go into overdrive (from outside the island). Winning the seat will give Labour a majority in the National Assembly.

Sorry Penddu, but Plaid don't really think Plaid has that much momentum after the locals. They have momentum now because of a solid candidate and a lot of bodies & money on the ground.....
Also, Cibwr is right, Labour will completely flood the seat over the next few weeks. The sheer volume of direct mail, leaflets and phone calls is going to suppress a big chunk the Plaid turnout and squeeze the Tories & Lib Dems just through an anti-Nat vote.
Like I say, Rhun will probably tip it, but I'm not sure he'll pull off a landslide victory......

I think a bye is probably OK for Plaid. Other parties squeezed by both.

I think there is momentum for Plaid - Labour seem to be in a bit of a mess locally in Ynys Mon, not that they will be running the Labour campaign but it can't help. Other parties will be squeezed and the "send a message to Westminster" will not play out here.

A few days ago Martin Shipton in the Western Mail reported a Labour source as effectively conceding the election to Plaid - although I don't give Martin Shipton much credibility. That is about the only thing I have heard - any news from the ground?

That is about the only thing I have heard - any news from the ground? Having spent a very pleasant afternoon with Martin Shipton with a great deal of wine, I have some respect for him, not sure about the Western Mail though or his individual motives, but in this I think he is right.
