I’ve just been to vote, and luckily the polling station is in the building where I live.
I voted Conservative for my first and only preference. I was going to second pref Labour, but not after today.

That’s fine. You do realise that ceding the Chagos islands to Mauritius was the initiative of the previous Conservative governments which has now been concluded by the Labour government? Apparently Truss was close to a deal in her brief period as PM.

If I was planning on voting for James Cleverly that would be an issue. Considering I’ll vote for either Kemi, not her area, or Tom Tugendhat, who has opposed this vociferously for donkeys, if one gets through, I don’t care. Labour didn’t need to go this far, nor this fast with it. Nor, frankly, did they need to pay Mauritius for the privilege of us handing over our territory and all without getting explicit guarantees for the Chagossians. No worries though, one of Starmer’s best mates will get his pay check from his clients in the Mauritian government. Which isn’t dodgy in the slightest ofc.

or Tom Tugendhat, who has opposed this vociferously for donkeys BTW, did you know he was in the army? He should talk about that more.

Chagossians get to return to their homeland after being violently expelled decades ago. Meanwhile you don't feel you can use a second preference in a council by-election. It really is such a finely balanced issue.

It really is such a finely balanced issue. I have no problem with the Chagossians returning. Such an outcome is just. What isn’t necessary is signing the islands over to Mauritius. On the islanders, let’s hope the Mauritian state allows the Chagossians to return as it’s now entirely out to them. This apparently necessary agreement completely cut the Chagossians people out of the process and ignored their concerns entirely. As for my vote, feel free to disagree, but I think national security is a perfectly legitimate reason to determine a persons vote in any election at any level. And I’m certainly not seeking your permission or approval to do that.

Anyone have any idea when the Lancaster, Scotchforth East result might be available? In 2023 the lead Labour candidate was 81 votes ahead of Green and the second Labour candidate just 3.

The expected Green win, but by a more spectacular margin than predicted.

The turnout in Strathmartine is 22.3%. In Lochee it's 21.4% I’m not surprised by the Lochee turnout. In my particular polling place, it was clear very very few had voted by mid afternoon. Here, the turnout will have been lower than that.
