Surprising Conservative absences in Cornwall and Hartlepool. I wonder if the latter could potentially aid Reform, who must be due a breakthrough somewhere sometime before too long on current polling.

I hadn't realised any Cornish ward had such a large Labour majority as that one.

One potentially less than straightforward Labour defence is in the West End, a ward which had never elected a Labour councillor until 2018, or even come all that close to it. It's a remarkable ward, containing most of Oxford Street, Mayfair, parts of Fitzrovia, Chinatown & Soho.

Probably an element of personal vote as there always is in Cornwall local elections but Penwerris is a pretty grim and historically quite safe Labour ward - basically Falmouth's council estate ward. Falmouth's quite a nive town generally speaking but this part of it isnt. Classic windswept hilly council estate

Reform called the Marine by-election. Personally, I think them standing and making an effort will damage the Conservatives further here.

The Conservatives seem to be in severe demographic decline here and are further burdened by putting up one of two candidates named Taylor and by having what seems to be a determined Reform challenge. I don't see a chance of winning and even a possibility of a poor showing.

I don't have an answer for this one specifically, though I think typically non-Thursday byelections are due to availability of venues or avoiding clashes with other major events.

One thing I've noticed is that the number of non-Thursday byelections seems to have increased over the last year or so.
