It's 60 constituencies without a Macronista candidate. And quite a mix- some LR, but also (as rcronald noted) not against Hollande and also not against the PCF boss Roussel. Jean Lassalle is back in the Pyrenees and aiming to get back into the assembly. Gilles le Gendre, the former LREM leader in the assembly, has been deselected but is running as an independent. He was accused of harassment by Rachida Dati, but no formal complaint was ever made, so presumably this is at the root of it. The tone this morning seems to be following Mbappé's comments about the extremes. Attal has now started speaking of the extremes as one bloc. This is probably sensible politics. Are RN and R! standing against Lassalle?

Are RM and R! standing against Lassalle? Not sure, one to check. More fun and games in Seine Saint-Denis too. After LFI removed Raquel Garrido and replaced her with a crackpot, the local PCF mayor in Bobigny has backed her. Never one to miss settling of scores, Melenchon has decided to drop in a LFI candidate against the PCF in other seat.

Sounds like a strong and united alliance… Car Crash election, I just can't look the other way…

There's a market strategist quoted today ( cogload will like this) who reckons selloffs on the CAC 40 are overblown because Macron "has successfully worked with PMs from other parties before". This bloke seems to have missed that the Macronista Potemkin parties are the parties that have provided those PMs.

The Nice prosecutor has opened a case against Ciotti for misuse of public funds... The phrase 'rats in a sack' comes to mind for some reason.
It's not a great electoral strategy.

The FT is reporting the ECB's chief ecomonist playing down the need to intervene in the French bond market. How reassuring!

It's not a great electoral strategy. It's traditional for a Niçois politician to be prosecuted at least one. The best exponents write a cookbook and then flee to Latin America.

Are the french electorate likely to distinguish between the parties of the Popular Front or will LFI/NPA bring the others down with them?

A couple of politicians from the centre-left wing of Ens stated that they would personally vote PS/EELV/PCF in a theoretical 2nd round between RN/NFP but not for LFI.

The presence of Hollande etc must help people get a grasp of who is a Melenchon groupie or not, and that they aren't all the same. French punters are quite savvy at sussing out who is who, probably from the days of multiple splinter parties with almost identical names. You've got to know your Parti Radical from your Parti Radical de Gauche, 14 different Ecology Parties, En Marche from En Commun, and understand that Les Centristes and Alliance Centriste are splinters of the same party and not centrists.

I'm exaggerating, but there at least 4 with ecology in the name alone.

Le Figaro report that requests for proxy votes are already 6.5 times higher than the equivalent point in the 2022 election.

Le Figaro report that requests for proxy votes are already 6.5 times higher than the equivalent point in the 2022 election. I assume that this is good for Ens? But if you think about it, the increase turnout in the 2nd round of the 2022 parliamentary elections definitely helped RN…

If they are heavily skewed to abroad, you're probably correct.
