Catherine Fookes MP (Lab) is no longer listed as councillor for Town Ward, Monmouthshire Council. (and a notice of vacancy has been issued) I’ve been meaning to ask, is she is relative of Janet? It’s not a very common surname. I think we might have heard, if only for the fact that they're of different parties. But I don't know for sure.

Fylde, Kilgrimol (2027). Tim Armit (Independent) has been removed from the list of councillors. Westmorland & Furness, Kirkby Stephen & Tebay (2027). Phil Drew (Conservative) has been removed from the list of councillors. Presumably a resignation in line with a move to Stockport as detailed in cwherald.com/news/phil-follows-calling-to-pastures-new/,

That was my grandparents’ ward; they lived in Lindsay Court next to Squires Gate station, hard by the borough boundary with Blackpool. So did uncle Reuben who was in a neighbouring block.

Maybe you will know ( Strontium Dog too)- Southport always had a big Jewish population of retired Mancs. Presumably Blackpool was similar?

My mother-in-law lives in Ansdell & Fairhaven ward, and the western boundary cuts across the golf course, but not in a straight line, which confuses me, because there's no apparent reason for it. After all, nobody lives on the golf course.

My mother-in-law lives in Ansdell & Fairhaven ward, and the western boundary cuts across the golf course, but not in a straight line, which confuses me, because there's no apparent reason for it. After all, nobody lives on the golf course. It looks like the first order explanation for the strange shape around the golf course is that LGBCE simply combined the boundaries of the old Fairhaven and Ansdell wards. But that just raises the question of why the old Ansdell ward cuts across in that place.
And I think the answer is that it is following the boundary of Saint Anne's on the Sea parish. Fairhaven and Ansdell are unparished, and presumably no-one has seen any reason to adjust the parish boundary to align with the golf course boundary. However there has just been a CGR establishing an Ansdell town council, which will have its first elections in May 2025. I suppose there is some possibility that the boundary might then get tweaked as part of a future tidying up CGR, but I'm not really sure why they'd bother then, either.
The golf course appears to have existed for some time - page 4 of this report shows the golf course and boundary in 1912.

Edinburgh, Colinton Fairmilehead will be 14th November. This was my grandparents' ward many years ago. Some of my favourite childhood memories are of going to stay there (including my first ever solo travel at the age of 7).
