Winchester 1997 the count resumed the following afternoon with completely new teams of counting agents and scrutineers. By the time the final declaration was made I had pretty much been awake for 36 hours, so that was probably a sensible decision. I remember staring at Ceefax on 2nd May 1997 waiting for that result to come through. We were on holiday at Sherwood Forest Center Parcs so I couldn't use the internet (which we had at home) to check on the BBC's election website.

This is starting to make Tower Hamlets look competent.

This is starting to make Tower Hamlets look competent. I guess they are thinking that the pressure's off, so why not take their ease. Either that or the counters are paid by the hour.

Declared at 5:52 PM. The Livestream is appalling.

Just LD and Lab bothered showing up. The SNP candidate had stated on Friday that he would be unable to attend due to a prior commitment.

The Lib Dem was apparently 18,057, which tallies with the majority of 2,058 being given on Twitter.

Where are the scrutineers? There don't even seem to be any chairs there for them. Chairs? For scrutineers? Never seen that - how can you properly scrutinise from such a position?

That seems a pretty convincing margin, so what was the problem?

That seems a pretty convincing margin, so what was the problem? Indeed. North East Fife in 2017 (two vote SNP majority) declared faster than this, albeit that's a smaller seat geographically.

That seems a pretty convincing margin, so what was the problem? A discrepancy between the verification total and the counted total. We don’t know how big that discrepancy was, or whether there was a big difference between their original figures and the recount figures. It may be that the resolution was that a big bundle of several hundred votes was lost and found again, or miscounted or miscalculated. Just because the final result is a margin of 2k doesn’t mean that there was no problem in the first place.

At least at Westminster, where do the Scottish LibDems go from here? They've won 6/6 of the seats they made a serious effort in, and were second nowhere else... Truly remarkable targeting.

Credit to the Labour candidate for turning up but at the same time no criticism of the others.
I can't believe the SNP is going to be crazy enough to put in any kind of legal challenge to this result when it is so clear what the intention of the voters was. Winchester has been mentioned and of course that also has a Scottish link as the defeated Conservative was Gerry Malone.
