Apparently both Lib Dems and SNP think this one is a Lib Dem gain. Kennedy's old seat capping off this election for the Liberals would be really something.

Apparently the Lib Dems lead by around 1,500 votes.

they should have been able to declare it earlier if it's that clear-cut.

When the count ground to a halt this morning, the RO decided not to do the recount later in the day but to postpone to Saturday when the counters have had some time to rest. So it's not "another" recount, it's the recount.

Apparently the Lib Dems lead by around 1,500 votes. If this is accurate then it's likely the Liberal Democrats polled ahead in Wester Ross, Lochaber and three out of five wards in Inverness, with SNP leading in Skye, Aird & Loch Ness and the remaining two out of five Inverness wards.

In other words, a pretty solid Liberal Democrat vote in most areas covered by Charles Kennedy's old Ross, Skye & Lochaber seat!

The Inverness Courier is also reporting that the Lib Dems are being acknowledged privately as the likely winners.

The forum had 32 votes for Lib Dem, 31 for SNP - remarkably prescient.

Sky are reporting this has declared for the LDs. Can’t find the figures They may have used the word “declared” but I think they mean “called” in the sense that the SNP has already conceded defeat to the LIb Dems. It will be interesting to see how big the margin* is, and how much discrepancy there originally was between the verified total and the counted total. * Iprefer to use the word “margin” rather than “majority”, particularly if the winning candidate has less than 50% of the votes.

Sky are reporting this has declared for the LDs. Can’t find the figures Sky News' website throughout Thursday night often put forward results - but the figures may have come immediately or 20 minutes later. The TV reporting only used declarations thankfully.
