Labour is very different from the Democratic Party, and the GOP is very different from the Tories.
Both Dems and Reps are culture war obsessed, while Labour and the Tories at least pretend to focus on the economic well being of voters…

Rotherham = Mahoning County, Ohio Rother Valley = Trumbull County, Ohio
Hope that helps.
Understand US politics and you understand more than most people here.

Seriously give it up already I've made the point, but this is the only part of the UK that you can legitimately call 'rust belt' because of the steel industry, along with Scunthorpe and Aberavon.

Most of the American Rustbelt didn’t have any steel industry. The rust refers to the abandoned factories that eventually turned rusty and general decay, rather than any actual presence of the steel industry.

I really can't believe there are 7 pages on Rotherham, when there are probably several hundred more interesting seats.

Our equivalent is more the Black Country boroughs anyway.

Parallels with the Rust Belt in the UK make little sense.
Unless you can also find a Sun Belt, an Empty Diagonal, a Blue Banana, a White Sausage Equator, a Rösti Ditch, a Barassi Line, a Whisky Belt....

And Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Redcar, Skinningrove and a lot more of South Wales with Sheerness/Medway, Dagenham, Birmingham/Black Country and other places.

I really can't believe there are 7 pages on Rotherham, when there are probably several hundred more interesting seats. Totally agree. Quite often on threads, conversations go off on a tangent between 2 or several people, all of which has very little to do with the topic of the thread and therefore should be deleted. Moderation on forums like this can be challenging though so I suspect these will unfortunately continue.
