Two contacts in the constituency that I spoke to independently today because I'm considering a Paddy Power special which involves the constituency. You can have 10/3 with PP the single right now. Fill your boots if that’s your view. All I ask is that you post your receipts here so we know it wasn’t just a spot of ramping. Nice handle too - Arabesque last night was the highlight of Glasto so far. The single may be less interesting than the accumulator - PP are offering a handful involving G&A, in one of which all the events are clearly highly correlated.

I'm not in the habit of uploading my bet slips to public forums but I'm happy to send you evidence privately.

Hunt was in Ash yesterday with about 12 activists whilst Follows was there with about 20. So that is the battleground it seems.

Was in Shere today for non-political reasons and from the bits I saw the stakeboard count was LD 2 - 1 Local Champion Jeremy Hunt.

It does seem that a Lib Dem win has been hyped up so much Hunt hanging on would actually be the shock result now

I'm not sure of the last time Ash was in the Guildford constituency but I don't believe it has in my adult life. In any case it was in Surrey Heath until now.

Before joining Surrey Heath it had been part of the Woking constituency since that was created in 1950. Prior to that (1918-1950) it was in Farnham and before 1918 in Chertsey. Before that of course Guildford was a borough constituency. Therefore Ash has never been in the same constituency as Guildford.

Tongham was in the Guildford seat between 1983 and 1997 though The most famous fact about Tongham is that Tongham FC's FA Cup encounter with Hawley in 1969 resulted in all twenty two players being booked, including one who had gone to hospital and one who wasn't actually present at the game.*
* Someone played for him as he had to go to a wedding.

It feels like that occasion should be commemorated in the name of a local punk band

Tongham is also noted as the location of the popular Hog's Back Brewery, one of whose ales is called OTT (Old Tongham Tasty). But otherwise yes, it is pretty obscure.

Yes it seems there's been way too much talk about it now to really provide any shock value like Portillo's defeat clearly did, as much as a sitting Chancellor losing his seat would/will still be a significant moment in history

I have some of the former in the cupboard.

Wasn't Friary Meux (pronounced Mewks) based up that way?

The Sunday Times describes this as a Portillo moment today. For several reasons, it wouldn’t be. Yes it seems there's been way too much talk about it now to really provide any shock value like Portillo's defeat clearly did, as much as a sitting Chancellor losing his seat would/will still be a significant moment in history It has been so trailed that it wouldn’t be a surprise. I think the scope for a true Portillo moment has been greatly reduced these days due to 24 hour news and social media. Everyone is well aware of all possible and even some almost impossible losses. There are also 2 other major differences- Portillo was a leading contender to be party leader had he survived, Hunt isn’t and the Tory majority in Enfield Southgate had never been below 10000 at a GE before 1997, Hunts seat has been marginal in living memory. That won’t stop it being called a Portillo moment if Hunt does lose though.
