Fair play, at least she is engaging the crowd.

This and Newark I think were two of the most disappointing results of the night for me. Even more than Hunt, whose chances of leadership are zero as he has said, likewise IDS.
Tactical voting clearly failed here as LDs and Greens piled on way too many votes. And is it just that this place is too well off to ever vote Labour, it’s in their DNA? Maybe even the private schools/tax rises scaremongering could have played a part here.

I think a failure of tactical voting is probably the most plausible explanation.

Naturally Laboury bits are in short supply - bits of Handforth and Wilmslow maybe. That said, there is a lot of housing springing up, and Handforth seems to be attracting thirtysomethings moving out of town but who can't afford the surrounding towns or suburbs. It might be one to watch in future.

There is a large Manchester overspill estate in Handforth and another in Wilmslow. However this never seemed to have much impact on local authority elections when I lived in the area. Both were part of the Cheadle Constituency back then.

Both were part of the Cheadle Constituency back then. Yeah that alone wouldn't have been enough for Labour to ever win back then (even if it did vote for them, which isn't necessarily a safe assumption to make). In last year's local elections however their sole candidate in the respective council ward did win a higher share of the vote than either Conservative candidate, though ultimately both seats were won by independents.
Colshaw Farm and Lacey Green?
I think those are both considered part of Wilmslow, with Handforth having its own separate overspill estates.

Handforth is a very weird place. It feels like a patchwork of different towns vaguely cobbled together.

Handforth is a very weird place. It feels like a patchwork of different towns vaguely cobbled together. I did stay in what we thought was Handforth long ago. My father had a job as a toolmaker on Bird Hall Lane and we moved up from Shropshire. We were staying with my father’s uncle and aunt on Bolshaw Road. His aunt was so mean that we wouldn’t put a light on a tried to read by the light from the radio. It is now part of Heald Green but back then that was all green fields and we considered it to be Handforth at the time despite being over the border in Cheadle and Gatley. My first job, for three years, was in Wilmslow so I knew the area quite well then but I doubt I would recognise it now. My last time in Handforth was to buy some potatoes from a farm shop there. I encountered a notable Handforth resident in the queue: Neil Young.

Handforth is a very weird place. It feels like a patchwork of different towns vaguely cobbled together. It does seem an odd place, and I've never put my finger on why I've thought that. Geographically it could easily be part of Greater Manchester, and somehow doesn't feel a proper part of GM (which it obviously isn't) or Cheshire. Maybe part of it is politically it's always had its independents (similar to Heald Green which is just the other side of the GM boundary).

Labour's candidate had little (certainly recent) connection to the seat, which maybe didn't help very much.
