Some poor sod in Hayes & Harlington must have thought:
"I'm glad Neville Sandelson is gone. It's all uphill from here!"

For Conservatives, Grantham & Stamford WAS one - Quentin Davies and Nick Boles. I don't think I've ever disliked any MP more than Quentin Davies. Heavens, that’s a pretty firm view in what must be a fairly crowded field?

Geoff Hoon wasn't so bad until he got corrupt. Nor was Gloria de Piero that terrible, despite taking the tainted GB News shilling since. When are you starting the clock on that?

Well quite - Terry Dicks was never a supporter of the IRA or chairman Mao for example, nor do I recall him joking about lynching his political opponents. There's no comparison really. Dicks was a bit of a booliack at times - McDonnell is vile scum.

McDonnell did at least apologise eventually for his support of the Provos and even admitted that it had probably extended the number of murders. Some contrition at least.

Rochdale has had an infamously terrible record of representation, though there are often gaps between the embarrassing MPs.

Rochdale has had an infamously terrible record of representation, though there are often gaps between the embarrassing MPs. What strikes me, looking at the parliamentary history of Rochdale, is the number of big names who stood there but failed to get elected - George Barnes, Dan Irving, R.H Tawney, and more recently Nancy Seear (as well as obviously Ludovic Kennedy)

Rochdale has had an infamously terrible record of representation, though there are often gaps between the embarrassing MPs. Then pity poor Littleborough. (Exception in italics) Geoffrey Dickens, Chris Davies, Phil Woolas, Lorna Fitzsimons, Paul Rowen, Simon Danczuk, Tony Lloyd, George Galloway, Paul Waugh (possibly)

Yes, I didn't quite word that accurately. Gaps between the outright disgraces and the merely embarrassing would be better.

Oh yes, one so literally close to home that I forgot: Shrewsbury (sometimes 'Shrewsbury and Atcham') though the new MP ought to represent a break in the pattern.
