Volt MEPs are going into the Green group. Apparently they didn't want to sit with (checks notes) half the Renew faction. Which probably says more about the Volt, despite the reputation of some of the Renew parties. On that note, long-standing standard-bearers of European liberalism Fianna Fail have said they won't vote for VdL. I would never vote for them (because I don’t share their eurofederalism), but I think their two Dutch MP’s are excellent.

May it please the forum that a YouTube account has compiled all the opening title sequences from across the EU on election day:

May it please the forum that a YouTube account has compiled all the opening title sequences from across the EU on election day: Thanks for that, very interesting. Why Germany needs a news special on both state broadcasters at once is not clear. And the Flemish intro appears to be using a video mix for a soap opera not an election, especially the bit with the rotisserie chickens!

It looks like all eyes are on Meloni now. With LR of the EPP, and at least Fianna Fail from the liberal camp, refusing to back her - she needs votes. The French and Italian socialists don't look happy either.
The only problem is, Meloni is not impressed by the obvious stitch-up meeting held by Macron, Scholz and several others.

In general, not confined to the EU, I think ballots should be secret when voting for people, but public when voting on policies.

In general, not confined to the EU, I think ballots should be secret when voting for people, but public when voting on policies. I think that makes sense, but in this case this is also about agreeing to a platform and a suite of policies. And this is also someone who has not been put up for election, despite labelling herself as the Spitzenkandidatin.

VDL needed 361 and got 401. The FDP voted against her in the end, mainly as she blanked them until earlier this week.
