POWYS, Talybont-on-Usk (if I'm not too late) : LD 44 Ind Fitzpatrick 28 C 22 Ind Markinson 6 Yes. You are late and lateness does not mean prizes but I regret penalties. And are you prepared to explain why the strong LD clear win? The circumstances look to be tight and riven by 'Green Farm' issue? Surely that will militate against a firm LD victory and when that party have caused the by-election by a resignation of one narrowly and recently elected? I am intrigued by your reasoning. I did enjoy meeting you on Sunday and you did not conform with my prior expectations. Many good annecdotes. Thanks.

I am late because I completely forgot there was a Wednesday by-election. Perhaps you dignify my prediction too greatly by talking of reasoning; it's just a hunch that the LDs tend not to lose their own seats in by-elections, but of course they sometimes do, and I can't pretend my knowledge of mid-Wales politics is sufficient to make authoritative predictions. I deliberately have left the other by-elections a bit late to predict as well, waiting for the autumn statement.

I expect at least 250 words from everyone who says I didn't conform to expectations, explaining in what ways this was the case, on my desk by 12 noon sharp tomorrow.

Well, Batman may have been late to Powys and indeed got penalties, but he came closer than any of us to getting the result right, even though he still underestimated the LD vote. You on the other hand "surely " got it wrong and it seems the good folk of Talybont were not overly impressed by the issue you thought maybe decisive?

Most of us on the forum greatly overestimated the Fitzpatrick independent vote.

I didn't 'get it' at all : I didn't make any prediction. I merely asked him for his reasoning. We had been made aware of certain issues in the preview and I was intrigued at his prediction.

Most of us on the forum greatly overestimated the Fitzpatrick independent vote. You are vindicated by the result and indeed you explained your 'reasoning' yesterday! Many congratulations are due to both you and the candidate. I was intrigued to know (I often am) why people decide to make the predictions that they do. In this case the selection of one of the significantly failing independents would have been a better question. Well done!

If my contrafibularities are correct, I got 70 faults for being wrong, whereas you got 28 faults for being wrong and 40 faults for being late. So you win anyway. My hippopotamus ate my homework

The candidate deserves more congratulations than I do.

Now I am laughing at those of us who predicted that Khan would get more votes than Naqvi.
