Third ballot: Johnson - 128 Other - 44 (McCarthy 43, Jordan 1) Donalds - 29 Mike Johnson is the latest Republican nominee for Speaker. How is that election denier getting from 128 to 217? Also, if there a serious possibility the next nominee for Speaker will be McCarthy? Donalds is interesting. If by some miracle, he won, he’d be the first Black Speaker of the House I believe. Easily

Lord help us. This is the best the GOP can do? He may well pleasantly surprise us, i seriously doubt it. Probably not but ultimately it became about getting someone through rather than the best person for the job

What brand of fundamentalist Christianity is Johnson, then - does he believe in the Rapture? He has said that he believes everything in the Bible, including that the Earth is 6,000 years old, and that we only have animals because of Noah’s Ark.

What brand of fundamentalist Christianity is Johnson, then - does he believe in the Rapture? I've found these comment pieces/profiles useful: "“I don’t believe there are any coincidences. I believe that scripture, the Bible, is very clear that God is the one that raises up those in authority, he raised up each of you, all of us. And I believe that God has ordained and allowed us to be brought here to this specific moment and time.”" "The danger here is that Mike Johnson, as best as I can tell, believes his election as Speaker is part of some eschatological master plan to hasten the Rapture. That he took the gavel just as war was breaking out in Israel would only strengthen that belief, as I will explain shortly—if he genuinely holds that view. Does he? And if he does, what does that portend for the rest of us?
The Washington Post identifies Mike Johnson as “an evangelical Christian” who “has been tied to multiple Baptist churches over the years and currently attends Cypress Baptist Church in Benton, La., according to the Louisiana Baptist Message. He is also a former lawyer and communications staffer with the Alliance Defense Fund, which later became known as Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative Christian legal firm.” From the looks of things, the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is only interested in defending religious freedom—and not the religious freedom that helps Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhists, occultists, agnostics, or atheists.
“Your race, creed, and sex are what you are, while homosexuality and cross-dressing are things you do,” the new Speaker once wrote in an editorial in his local paper. “This is a free country, but we don’t give special protections for every person’s bizarre choices.” To Mike Johnson, we choose our sexual orientation, but our belief systems are inalterable, hard-coded into our DNA. Here in the real world, of course, the opposite is true. People change their minds all the time on matters of faith. I was raised Catholic and lasted long enough to get confirmed, but I no longer belong to the Church. This sort of thing happens every day, to lapsed Catholics, Mormons, Evangelicals, and so on. Johnson himself has meandered from denomination to denomination. Why move around so much, if his belief system didn’t change? Furthermore, why would evangelicals be so gung-ho on converting nonbelievers, if creed is static?"

Piece in The Bulwark about him: plus.thebulwark.com/p/mike-johnson-polite-extremisttl;dr - He's closely tied to the New Apostolic Reformation, who came up with the Seven Mountain Mandate. To quote electoral-vote.com, 'the NAR is laser-focused on Revelation 17:9, which reads: "Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits." They couple that with Isaiah 2:2, which reads: "Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established on the top of the mountains."' They 'translate' this to mean that evangelical Christians need to take positions of control in: family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government - the seven mountains. Then they can create a theocratic government and that will bring about the End of Days. Literally, the biblical end of days, not the modern meaning of 'it's all going to sh*t.' He als has a covenanted marriage - the only acceptable grounds for divorce are abuse, abandonment, imprisonment of a spouse, or lengthy separation. He's quite far out there.

Here's Mike Johnson talking about "Covenant Eyes", an app he uses at home which sends your "accountability partner" a weekly report of your internet use, and sends an immediate notice if anything inappropriate is searched for or accessed
His "accountability partner" is his 17-yo son.

Perhaps Matt Gaetz is going to insist he has an App installed on his phone to send out an alert every time he tries to agree with a Democrat.
