Out of all the independents that are up for election next year, i can only see Homewood and Akbar putting themselves up again. Even then Akbar only has the best chance of winning. Assuming they stand as an independent that is.

When the all outs take place I wish the local Tory party managers the best of luck trying to fill all the spaces for candidates...
Five years ago when Leeds had them, the chap stood himself, as did his wife... and there was at least one candidate from outside the city that was identified as working there, so were rounded up and put on the ballot paper.
The district could easily be a Tory free zone in a couple of years. Down from nearly 20 three years ago.

That would require either a Conservative not up for re-election to leave the group or for the Lib Dems to win a second seat. The first seems plausible given the state of the group, the second doesn't given the absence of any signs of organisation outside Knottingley.

Wouldn't Conservative loses in both Pontefract South (which I would assume as very likely) and Wakefield Rural make it happen?

That would leave both Tories and LDs on 3 seats. I thought in those circumstances the convention was that the Official Opposition role was shared.

Given the make up of a three person Tory group, I'd imagine one of them would find it difficult to serve with the other two on his own.
He wouldn't have a dozen other colleagues to share the toxicity with, as was the case before.

Councillor Nadiah Sharp is now down as an independent on the Wakefield website. She was suspended by the Labour Group back in September for publicly supporting taxi drivers who were protesting outside the Town hall . The suspension was only meant to last for two months and during that time she was still under Labour on the website.

Suspensions from a group whip are not normally predetermined in terms of time they last.

According to a good mate of mine who is a Labour Councillor , Cllr Sharp has a very high option of herself. In 2022 when she was first elected she put herself forward go lead the Labour Group . She got one vote and the rest of the Labour Group all stood by Denise Jeffery.
