Only sour note is the Britain First vote My theory is that the voters saw the bit about “boats” and not the rest.

He might have just gone for a pee or whatever BBC reports he ran to the nearest fire exit as the result was confirmed to him.

Reform vote larger than the Labour majority in both seats. I'm not saying those voters would've backed the Tories, but it's notable.

LDs tied for sixth place. They didn't campaign or expect to retain their deposit here or whatever, but that was quite the low share.

Well, at least Eddie Hughes doesn’t have to give up the seat.

I'm glad the Tories lost this one in particular. Their candidate was a bit of a moron by the sounds of it.

Hughes is the proven product, and a solid performer, gaining a seat from Labour against the national swing.

Turnout reported as 35.9%, 25630 So an exciting and important event that failed to engage two-thirds of the electorate at all! It would be very foolish to take it either seriously or to make any extrapolation from it.

OTOH is the 2nd biggest Con > Lab swing since the war! But with way under half the electorate bothering to turn out at all! For very obvious reasons a large number of conservative-inclined voters have sat this one out, but not as many as would have done so 6-months back. A reverse and a slap in the face. Reform doing damage but still minor damage, even if it probably helped the defeat? Don't run away with the idea that most Reform voters think that a Labour win is the worst nightmare because it isn't. Their worst nightmare would have been a narrow Conservative win. And you can all stop being triumphalist about the Conservative reverses, as in 2019 they had a massive win, and could do the same again even in the 2020s, with this fickle, febrile electorate. Small earthquakes. Not many dead. Get over yourselves on these low TO polls.

Nearly 10% for parties to the right of the Conservatives and with even the lowest polling of these beating both Lib Dems and Greens is quality

The Labour results of the 1990s and the further-right-than-the-Conservatives vote of the 1970s. What a combination.
